Tomorrow evening the there will be an open house by the design firm in charge of the "master plan" for Red Mountain Park (http://www.redmountainpark.org/). They will be soliciting ideas and feedback and a strong showing from the Disc Golf Community could go a long way towards getting a course in the ground at this new park. Please attend if possible! I will be there at 5:30, hope to see everyone!
-----article from Friends of Red Mountain-----
"Open house with Wallace, Roberts & Todd on 6/13/06 @ Vulcan Park.
Join the Freshwater Land Trust, the Red Mountain Park Steering Committee and the Friends of Red Mountain Park in welcoming representatives from Wallace, Roberts & Todd-the landscape design firm tasked with creating the park's master plan-to Birmingham on Tuesday, June 13th, from 5:30 - 7:00pm @ Vulcan Park. This will be a non-formatted meeting to introduce WRT to the larger community.
WRT will be in town all week doing preliminary research and the Open House will be a great opportunity for both sides to meet. We look forward to hearing specifics as to how they will solicit input from user groups and individuals eager to have a say in the design process. Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend."

These guys are from the Philly area were the Pro Worlds was located last year. Wear a DGB shirt if you have one. No more than 5 cups from the keg.

The meeting was very informative. Thanks to Justin, new Chris and Tim B for attending. Too bad there was no food. They served breakfast this morning.
They will be back in August to give us another chance.

Hey folks I had heard about a course that was designed in Alabaster. What happened and is there another plan for out that direction. I live there and sure would be nice to have one close by with these crazy gas prices. I have played this game for a couple of years but have just introduced my brother to it and he is really pumped. He lives in TN and has a number of courses close by and continues to rub that in my face hence my interest in one close to me. Thanks for these updates and glad I found your site.

We had a course staked out in Veterans park in Alabaster. We were told by some of the residents..."they did not want our kind in the park"...or something like that. Now they have a skate park there also. LOL
As far as I know, there are no other plans to put a course in Alabaster.

If not Alabaster which really surprises me how bout some of the close cities around it. Thanks for the response.

It's just a matter of talking to the parks, getting on their board's agenda, then presenting info on disc golf and a course.

First, thanks for signing up and showing an interest!
Second, You can ask TK and Joe what exactly they did to get Trussville to allow them a course in. To my knowledge they basically just showed up at city council/park department meetings and got to know everyone. Being visible is the biggest thing. Make people know that there is an interest in your sport and what the advantages having a disc golf course will give them.
If you need some manpower to show up at a council meeting with you let me know. We'll see who we can round up!

We had a complete 18 hole course staked out in the new park in Alabaster.
Some of the neighbors that live next to the fence on the South side of the park, do no want anything out in those wide open fields. For years all they had was cows. Now it is a city park and they have an "in" with the CityCouncil. The president of their little neighborhood association is on the city council. He/they are the ones who killed it all, after it had been voted on and approved by the (now defunct) park board. Maybe it is time to revisit the issue. There is about 50 acres of open field with a few trees with nothing on it, except a few pavallions, a walking trail and a fence with a few houses on the other side. Politics.... go figure.
