Joe and myself played a round out at civitan park today, the tee pad preperation is awsome!! But when we got to hole 17 sombody has gone a litte to far with course maintanance, someone has taken it upon themselves to cut down the privot on the left and right just in front of the Am pad, to make this hole easier, plus some all the way down the right. And to top it off, the cut down privot in front of and to the right of the last large hardwood on the corner before you take the take the right fairway aroud to the basket. this is not good  this changes this hole! We had it shaped the way we intended it to be, it is ok to clear stuf growing it the middle of the fairways but don't cut to widen it just to make it easier for yourself. I have no idea who did this, they may have thought they were doing a good thing, i don't know, if it was a DGB member PLEASE DON'T DO ANY CUTTING unless it is OK'ed by Joe or myself. I am not trying to be an ass about this, but i don't want to see all the hard work WE, DGB has done on this course Destroyed with unautherized cutting.
Thanks,
Tim Keith
I'm thinking its time to put up a printed notice about this a few places around the course. Hole 17 seems to have a new drastic change every time through nowadays.

any clue as to who did it?

I can't see some random guy showing up just to cut some things down. I would think it would have to have been someone who knew DGB was making improvements and thought they were "helping".

ya never know. it could be a newbie who is tired of getting 7s and 8s on the hole. Its almost impossible to tell. I would have to agree that signs should go up, maybe on the bulletin board or by the holes themselves.

Is it possible that the city of trussville did it thinking they were helping. I'm pretty sure it was no one in my little group.

That bites.
The only way to get better at holes like that is to play holes like that. Whoever cut that down is not only hurting themselves at the prospect of getting better, they have now ruined EVERYONES chances at being better golfers. Thankfully privet grows relatively quickly.

I remember it looking normal on Sunday. I was bitching about something hanging down pretty low about 40 feet in front of the am pad...but I did not act on my frustration. I wonder who would go out there and cut something that drastically?

I'm sure it was someone with the best of intentions, I don't know any golfers out here who would consciously try to undermine the course. Hopefully they'll see this thread (or the email) and check with us before cutting next time!

I brought up in the last meeting that cutting should only be done by a designated commitee and I think everyone agreed. Is this official policy and if so how do we communicate it to everyone? Maybe a broadcast e-mail for those who don't check the site? I played today and at this rate T'ville will look just like GW in a few months. 3 seemed more cleaned out behind the basket towards 4's fairway than the last time I played. I think we need an explanation on the board by one that it is not every players right to beat down, break off, or pull up things as they want.

I had a chance to "meet" the guy who did the cutting today. It was completely innocent, he'd heard we were having a work day and new we wanted people to help out with course management and assumed a little trimming could be done. I didn't catch his name (overheard him talking to Tom about the cutting) but he seemed like a nice guy just trying to help.
we just need to have general etiquette signs that include a statement something like:
"please do not cut or trim anything on the course, club officials are exclusively assigned this task in order to keep the course as it was designed to play"

No doubt it was innocent, but it still irks me greatly.  The changes made make the shot easier for righties, and odds are that the "mysterious trimmer" is a righty. Signs will go up soon, before any more changes are made.
I cannot see how changing the fundamental aspect of a hole could be considered a help to the course, especially on the signature hole!!!

Joe, can a row of small trees or some other interesting feature be added to correct? Water feature? Rock wall? Bleachers? ;)
Sorry I'm going to miss the work day, a Church group I'm in is going to go work on an older lady's house in Adamsville.

Does the older lady's house have a disc golf course we can play at? C'mon man....get your priorities straight! :)

perhaps until the privit regrows spray or ribben the areas that are cut ob and maybe a mando sign on the big tree in the back. Privit grows almost as fast as kudzu around here and usually comes back in thicker and meaner so at least it is a temp prob.
