View Full Version : Hall of Fame Tournament
Who is going to the HOF tourney in Augusta?
I got my hands on a set of the HOF trading cards and I am looking for someone to get some of them signed for me.
Anyone?...Anyone?

Not only is this a big tourney, but it is also the grand opening of two new courses, the new PDGA Office, the Hall of Fame and the Headrick museum.
Quite a historic event. We have some deep connections to this event.
Addie Isbell, works in the PDGA office now. She is our State Director and is from Huntsville. Lavone Wolfe, also from H'ville, is the founder of the Hall of Fame. A couple of weeks ago he took over about 80K worth of discs and memorabilia. Check out some pix at PDGA discussion page.
Even if you can't play in the event , it would be worth the trip just to attend and see it all. There are lot's of good deals in motels on Washington Road which is the same road as the new center. I'll be heading over Monday. If anyone want's more info, just ask. The tourney starts on Friday.
It is about 2 hours past Atlanta and there is a short cut to the IDGC.

So, Nicki and I are going this weekend but... where do I find any specific info about the event (player's meeting time, address of IDGHOF, courses played, general event info, etc.)? The PDGA site just takes me to the sign-up page and I can't find any other specific info about this event ANYWHERE. Can someone help? I know basically all I need to know but it would be nice to know specifics like where and when we meet on Friday, etc.

Live from Augusta. The big Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting is 10:00 Friday.
Staggered starts will follow on both course's. So, you can stand on #1 and watch everyone tee off about 10 minutes apart. Rounds on our course, The Headrick ,should take about 3 hours. The "other" course could take four or more. Both course's play at the same time.
Check out the web page for Am's, maybe Nikki can still get in?
BTW, the new building/clubhouse/HOF and Headrick museum is awesome.
There is a short cut off I-20 to go to Wildwood. After the second rest area, out of Atlanta, you peel off just past the second rest area. There is a sign for the Laurel & Hardy Museum, don't ask. Peel off, then go left back over the Interstate. Go through the little town of Appling, and look closely for the right turn. It is County Rd 47/ something. It comes up really quick, so don't miss it! you will know you are on it if you pass a ball field and a bunch of green house's. Go for a mile or so, and turn left at the 4 way stop at Pollards Corner. Follow the signs to the ESPN Bass Fishing thing, don't ask.
It is Wildwood Park. Look for the Disc Golf sign past the guard house and come on in. There may be overflow parking.
If you don't have motel, pick up one of those coupon books at the rest area. The LaQuinta on Washington St. is pretty good. Also on the road going up to Wildwood.

Anyone know what happened to Tom at the HOL classic? Didn't play round 2???

I don't know. I never saw his van today but since we've been playing with tee-times I just assumed I'd missed him. I haven't actually seen him since friday. He may have not been feeling well.
I just got this on the PDGA Forum.
Tom's Augusta curse returned - it sounds like he came down with food poisoning again. It hit him late Friday night and kept him in bed all day yesterday. He still looked a little green around the gills last night and missed the barbeque at the IDGC.

Will it come to your hometown?
It looks like we are going to have to send Tom off with bag lunches next time he goes to Augusta.

What a lousy payout:confused: anyone got any insight as to why it went backwards? one more reason to do away with the NT!

just out of curiosity, why is it lousy and what do you suggest?
What a lousy payout:confused: anyone got any insight as to why it went backwards? one more reason to do away with the NT!
The fact that there were only 52 pros vs. around 100 at most NT events was probably a factor.
Here is what Briam Graham had to say in response to that question on the PGDA site.
Dave & MTL,
We opted to go with a lower entry fee for this tournament than our previous NT's because we wanted as many players as possible to be able to join us for the IDGC grand opening. Also take into account that we now pay deeper into the field than in the past. We added over $4,000 to the purse, which is the most I have ever added to a purse with the exception of Pro Worlds in 2006. My goal for this event was not to be the richest NT. It was to make this event as affordable to as many members to attend as possible so that they could be here for this historical occassion. We had 200 competitors, so my goal was accomplished!
This article, along with two color photos, appeared on the front page of the Augusta Chronicle on Saturday:

The highlight of the weekend for me personally, was seeing Farina Headrick throw a disc with Ed's ashes onto the roof of the building, where it will be permanently affixed.
Thanks to everyone who made this historical weekend so special!
Regards,
Brian Graham

Not the best showing for the B'ham crew but we did our best. Nicki tied for 2nd in advanced women with a +48 over the 3 rounds. I came in 17th out of 20 in intermediate men with a +41. Jeremy finished 47th out of 53 in the Open division with a +8. But the shoe-in to take 1st in Senior Grandmasters, Tom, had to leave his 5 stroke lead after the 1st round (as ya'll have heard) :( Most unfortunate. But, nonetheless, it was an awesome facility and an awesome tournament and it was most cool to be practice putting right next to Climo and Reading and most of the top pros. :)
A note on the payouts: Nicki received absolutely nothing for her 2nd place finish, even though the site says they paid her $15. Now, obviously myself and Jeremy were out of the payout, but Nicki paid her $60.00 + $5.00 entrance and kicked ass! As Nicki herself said to me on the way back over yesterday, "They could've at least given me a disc." Quite an oversight.

No, I don't think so 'cuz I got the same PP as she did (basically just a $25 voucher to the pro shop) and it doesn't say $15 next to my results.

just out of curiosity, why is it lousy and what do you suggest?
Well Tiger, just look at past NT events.
Bill, I do not recall there ever being 105 open players in one divison of an NT event very often:D In fact Bowling Green had 103 "thanks Justin" Still when you considered it was supported by 713 ams not a very good payout either;)
I will try and answer the question Tiger. Lousy, when you compare next weeks Memphis event or go read wht Mr Kernan said in response to Mr Graham response. I think he ran a one day which did everything the NT did. By the way this is the lowest paying NT to date! "is that not good enough to call it lousy?"
Hard to imagine events in 2005 paid out more than this one:(
My suggestion is rework the NT guidelines so that there is a min. for first place! There should not be a B tier that pays more than an NT or why have levels. I could go on like not giving am's a voucher for 25 when they will only get about a true value of 8-10! there is about 1300 of what he said was added, care to guess where the other 2700 came from:confused:
You guessed it, right from the same place only this time using the wholesale retail method:eek: Same story just another event. Do not get me started on BOWLING GREEN SCam's! Try some true fund raising. I have to do it for my sons all-star team. Go out get hard cash with no strings attached.
Lastly, I chose to BOYCOTT the PDGA for now. When I see change I may return. Oh by the way I ran an event here in the HAM that paid 1250.00 to the winner. Entry was less and the am winner got an Innova Discatcher! So I don't realy need to suggest anything:D

Richard, I do not recall there ever being 100 open players in one divison of an NT event ever!:D
Haven't seen Richard post in this thread....Bill you mean?
100 people in one division? What about BG two weeks ago?

Don't forget the memorial, 102 in the open alone, not including the masters!

Women indeed seem to get the major shaft when it comes to payouts. This should certainly be addressed if we truly want more ladies playing.
Oh, and somebody should volunteer to be Tom's personal travel chef :p

sorry, but it just comes across to me as bitchin. I had no problem with grahams reason behind the payout. instead of boycotting the PDGA maybe you should run for a board position or speak with him about these decision and help change it. Think of it this way, if everyone boycotts, nothing gets done. While you may support southern nationals and think they run things better others may disagree with you. I agree there should be some better standards but just complaining doesn't get anything done. Actions speak MUCH louder than words.

I got a DGA hat ($20) and put the rest towards two $9 IDGC Rocs that I got autographed by Climo, Reading and Monroe :)

Well Tiger, it is not bitching unless you do or have done something in the past, both of which I have done! As for Brian's explanation so be it but, as someone who has run many events I see thru the gray area as to added cash and wholesale vs retail. You go ahead and support them as I have for 7 years not only as a member but much more.
Speak with him??? If it was not for me and a few others you would still be getting DGWN for half of your memebership. Now it will be your choice. I said I was boycotting them and never did I tell YOU or anyone to follow suit. That is my choice. I also sat down with the PDGA at the SNPC so I have had plenty of ACTION to go along with my words:D
Maybe in a few years things will change but, it has not in 7 years  But I am still hoping;) You asked what I thought and I responded these are merely my thoughts and nothing more but...................................
