Do not miss the first ever PDGA tourney in Athens on July 1st. It should be a very fun day. The course will be setup LONG, since we know it will be HOT we are reserving the pool for after the event. We are still working some of the details out, I will try to post news often.

If you have any questions e-mail me at bill_bullington@yahoo.com.

Do not miss the first ever PDGA sanctioned tournament in Athens, AL!

The Long Hot Summer should be both long and hot, all divisions other
than Rec will be playing a course layout that is 8200+'. To combat
the heat we are reserving the city pool for after the tournament and
the admission fee will be free to all disc golfers.

Open - $30
Advanced - $25
Intermediate - $20
Rec/Junior - $15

No additional fee for non-PDGA members for "D" teir events.

Registration 7:00-8:45
Players Meeting 9:00
Play starts 9:30

We have a couple of ideas in place to handle the heat better than we
did Memorial Day, including more water coolers. If you have a
portable sun shade that would like to bring please let us know, we
would like to get these on most of the tees.

To pre-register please send check to:

I'm interested in this one. I'm looking for one to two more tournaments this summer and I think a D tier will be good for my bank account 8-)

Is this just a one day event?

Yes, thank goodness. I miss the one day events. They are like a throw back these days. I will be at this one.

Brian, I too prefer one day tournaments. I wish there were more in North Alabama.

what exactly is "intermediate"? I shoot around a 90 on 24 holes at george ward (my best being a 87)... i'd like to start playing some of these things but i'm wondering where i need to be score-wise to not be a disgrace to the sport of disc golf.

oh i was messing around with a 3d program we have at work. i was going for a roc but i think i ended up with a teebird

if its your first tournament, unless you're just destroy your home course its a good idea to go with intermediate. The first two tournaments I ever played were intermediate to get a feel of how competitive I was. If in the tournament your scores could place you in the cash in advanced move up, but if you don't think you'll be competitive don't worry about it.

ditchell,

Since you have not played a tournament before, I would recommend that you play Rec. In this tourney Intermediates will be playing the same layout that the pros play. Rec players will be playing the shorter tees on 9 of the holes, making those holes play 20'-450' shorter each. Several of the locals will be playing Rec as well to avoid the super long, 8200+' layout.

well as of right now you have my verbal confirmation. I'll probably just pay the day of but expect to see me there.

87 at GW...probably should play Rec division. Intermediate players will typically shoot around 76-80 at GW, while Advanced players shoot 66-76 and pros shoot between 60 and 74.

And don't let the old-schoolers tell you that you can only play Rec once. Recreational is the name of a skill protected division. Higher rated players (check PDGA.com for explanations on ratings) cannot play in lower divisions.

If this is your first tournament, have fun and remember itis just a game. Tournaments play about 3-4 strokes harder then casual play. Ask Tom Bassing about how much different putting is in a tournament.

But remember the most imporant things.

Use a mini (you get an extra foot closer on your putts:cool: )
Relax and enjoy the game.

Tournaments 3 or 4 shots harder than casual play? I just wish I could play as well casually as I do in tournaments, I usaully play tournament rounds 3 or 4 shots less than in casual rounds. I really cannot explain why.

well if i make it out, i'll definately be rec.

i went and played tuscaloosa today and discovered that i apparently suck at disc golf.

I'm still trying to wriggle my way out of a wedding that weekend. If I can I'd be interested in getting a carpool up from Birmingham for this event.

These Athen's guys usually put on great tournaments. The am payouts will be strong i'm sure!

If i were you i'd show up and see who is there. If you see TK, Lavone, Dean, I'd run the other way... :)

well I want discs, not cash right now cause I wanna be able to play in am worlds next summer and cash ( I don't think I would in pro) so I'll probably stick to adv.

This is not always true. You can only play rec once in an SN tournament, unless it is also PDGA sanctioned. In that case PDGA rules supercede SN. If you play your next tournament at an SN only event, you can not play Rec.

I agree completely with the mini statement. People, USE A MINI!!! Also, learn the thumber!

Josh

PS Kris, thank you for the kind words reguarding Marla on the other forum.

do not, do not, do NOT learn the thumber. Learn real golf shots, you'll shoot lower scores and be called a "bagger"

3 out of the top 5 in ADV where Bham players. I was lucky enough to play the first round with Michael and the second with Jeremy. Jeremy with his 400ft hyzer shot was killing me. Quite impressive. There was no catching him.

Brian,

3 of the top 6. Michael and I tied. However, I guess you could also say 4 of the top 6 since MJ and I consider ourselves Half B'ham and half Huntsville :)
