day trip

some friends and i are thinking about trying out a new course- we all seem to have a couple of days off coming up.

whats the word on hartselle? worth a trip up there?

also, is UAH playable during the week? seems like somebody told me it was a weekends only type course?

what about montgomery? i never hear anyone talk about those courses.

we dont want to drive too far, and hopefully there are two to play. any other suggestions?

obviously Huntsville is your best bet for a ton of courses not too far a drive away. I've played UAH during the week with no problem. Its not anywhere near campus buildings so you don't have to worry about too many students wandering around. Mastin Lake is my favorite of the courses up there. Tight and wooded. And of course they have Brahan and Redstone. You won't be able to get onto Redstone though :-P. And of course on the way to huntsville (or coming back) you pass right by Athens and Hartselle. So I would suggest you go north and play. Tons of good courses within an hour and a half's drive.

UAH is awesome but it will indeed eat your lunch. Probably why I love it :D

Hartselle is a really fun course, reminds me much of the shorter holes at Trussville. For some reason I just can't get enough of a good pine tree. It's such a total hit or miss affair. With Oaks and the like you may catch a twig and get an errant throw or it may actually help your errant throw become a good one. With Pine it's pretty much all or nothing... when you hit one of those trunks you are stopped short and that's all there is to it. Haven't played Athens yet and I still recommend making the trip over to Tishamingo in MS to experience some truly tight fairways. It's like Trussville #17 throughout, just not nearly as long....

If you are up near Athens on a Monday, join us for doubles at the Sportsplex at 5:20. From the back tees it can play longer than UAH, am tees on 8 holes can make it much more am friendly.
