Right now, we are tenatively planning a practice session up in Huntsville for the Rocket City Blast.

We would be leaving early in the morning on Saturday the 13th, and getting back after dinnertime. This would be so we can practice the 3 important courses up there. Mastin Lake, UAH, and Redstone. I will contact Chris Jaskolka and Paul Seija to see if they can get us onto the the Arsenal.

I am able to take 3 people up with bags. But I cannot get my car on the course, hence why we would need Chris and Paul.

Post here or call me if you are interested in going.

As I've right now I'm game. So count me in. If we have enough people going I may be able to drive my van (don't really want to with such high gas prices :-P, but its an option) I could take three people comfortably, 4 only slightly cramped with as many bags as possible.

Yeah, it was nice when I bought my car, it would cost me a whopping $7 to make a trip to the Huntsville courses and back. Now at $3/gallon it is nearly $15 for the trip.

Used to be, my carpool buddies would get together and buy me lunch. Now each of them has to pony up. Pretty sad.

I might be able to drift over that way in the afternoon though. I'll call you guys if i can.

It looks like I am going to have to get someone to work for me that Sunday but I would like to go if at all possible. I have still not played any of the courses up there.

I didn't realize sunday was mothers day, saturday may be better, but I'm up for either. I don't THINK I'm doing anything, my girls may have games that weekend but it depends on how they do this weekend (I'm an assistant coach of high school soccer. I don't have daughters :-P)

Hrmm...I really need to practice H'ville, but you know the TVT is in Athens that morning.

I'd be up for the 13th. Probably ride up seperate from you guys as I'll be heading over to Muscle Shoals for Mother's Day.

Parkntwoputt

Yeah, 13th might be better. I forget that not everyone elses mom isn't 800 miles away. All I would have to do is make a phone call.

Lets try for hte 13th, that way we can get in doubles too.

I doubt I can get someone to work for me on Saturday. I might have to go up on Sunday anyway--what are the chances of getting on Redstone? I heard it is a no go except for tournaments?

No, you just need to have a pass, or be with someone with access.

If you cannot go with everyone, I can see if there is anything I can do with Chris Jaskolka up there. He was the guy doing the computer work at the Golden George.

Michael, all is cool for you to meet up with Chris J. on Sunday. I got your hook up, I will give you his cell phone number when I see you this week.

I am hoping we can get on the road Saturday morning at 7:30am.

This will give us 90 minutes to get into H-Ville. Play UAH or Mastin first, eat lunch then hit the other.

Most of the Huntsville crew will be in Athens for the TVT, so the course should be clear. But we have to wait for Chris to get back so we can get onto Redstone. But we will probably not hit Redstone until 3pm. If we have to wait for him to get into town we can go walk Brahan for the people who had never seen it before. No point playing it, all you have to do is miss trees and you can duece anything, with exception to #1 which is 420ft.

Anybody have a good place where we can all meet and car pool where our cars will be safe?

ok, here's the deal, both of my high school soccer teams made into to State this year (I'm the assistant/goalkeeping coach for both teams). I believe they play friday and either saturday or sunday, I can't remember). The tournament is held in huntsville, so basically I will already be up there. Depending on when exactly they play I may not be able to play with you guys the whole day but hopefully I can get onto redstone with you guys.

I'll give you a call when we are about to head over there. Good luck at State!

ALCON (That's Military for "All Concerned"),

Saturday is your lucky day. I'll be going to H'ville with you guys and being that I am in the Army, we can play Redstone any time of the day that we please. 7:30 sounds like a good take-off time, although I'd be up for leaving even earlier if we intend to try to get in three rounds at three different courses.

Schedule for my teams this weekend. Friday girls play 9:30, guys 11:15... If they win (which I'm pretty sure the girls will and the guys have a good chance) both teams will play at those same times saturday. The reason I bring this up is that I can always play the three other courses at any time, but I'd really like to play Restone with you guys, so try and save that one for last. Thanks

My wife delightfully informed me that I am not smart.

We have plans in the late afternoon and evening for Saturday the 13th. That is why I was planning a trip on Sunday.

Durr....

So I am going on Sunday.

Redstone is like George Ward with no elevation and slightly tighter fairways? I'd say you haven't played there. Holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 14 are as tight, in some cases tighter than any hole at GW INCLUDING the added 6.

BTW the Blast is won and lost at Brahan. In Advanced last year, only 4 players shot under 50 at Brahan. 3 of the 4 finished 1, 2, 3 overall. Don't think you can win if you don't shoot at least 6 down.

Isn't that the only course you shoot under par at?

The secret to Brahan is to just throw slow, smooth, and make putts. You can successfully play Brahan with a Roc or a Buzzz.

But remember, last year UAH was a fairly neutral course. Now it favors pro level players so there will be some disparity between the people who do well at Brahan vs the people who do well at the new UAH. I imagine that while these courses will create greater scoring spreads in the tournament, it will balance out between the two. I think this year Mastin and Redstone will have more weight in the deciding factor of the tournament.

did you say I didn't play Redstone? As a matter of fact I did during the Alabama Am open and I thought it was the easiest of the three courses (granted the ruond at Brahan was played in s$#%astic weather conditions otherwise it would have been the easiest) But GW prepared me very well for that course. I played that course twice and shot pretty well both rounds with ratings about 970 both rounds. If I hadn't played the course I wouldn't have made my comment.

I'll be in Muscle Shoals the night before but will probably ride over and meet you guys.

Richard, can you get two vehicles on Redstone? If not we can work out something and park mine off somewhere. Or if Chris J is meeting us that will give us two people with access...

I have someone working for me on Sunday so I can go with you to Huntsville. What time are you thinking of leaving?

"Tiger"
05-09-2006, 07:28 PM
Since my teams won't be playing sunday either way (unless of cancellation due to rain or something) I will plan on coming back to bham whenever they finish and then if its ok with you kris, grab a ride back up with you on sunday and play then... that way I'm not rushin or holdin you guys up

Micheal - Leaving Birmingham Metro at 7:30am. PM me directions to your place.

Tiger - Sure you can ride back, I will save you space in the car.

Poor little Josh.... At least par at UAH is 59, or is it 60 from the longs.

I am figuring
#4 as a par 5. (your kidding yourself on anything else). I have seen a 3 on this hole, and it was freaking AMAZING:eek:
#7 par 4
#11 long par 4
#12 long par 4

Is #18 a par 4? I don't see how any human can duece it to justify a par three designation. Rollers would get killed in the pine straw, and the hyzer route is over a 500ft shot.

TK, Justin, (and anyone else interested),

Saturday is the only day that I can go (Mother's Day commitments on Sunday). I plan to leave B'ham no later than 7 am so I won't feel rushed to finish at any particular course in order to get quality practice at each.

For folks leaving from B'ham, we can meet at any convenient location and leave vehicles at a safe place (you guys decide, since it will be your vehicles left behind).

Yeah, Justin, I think that I can escort another vehicle and passengers onto the Arsenal, but don't quote me on that. I honestly don't believe there will be a problem with it though. Make sure you have a driver's license (duh), vehicle registration and proof of insurance.

I'll be taking my Jeep so I can take maybe two passengers and their discs with me, comfortably:rolleyes:.

Let's have some fun!

ALCON,

I am terribly sorry to report that I have just been informed that I must depart for a top secret army training site in the vicinity of Hattiesburg on Friday. That effectively takes me (and the access to Redstone that I was providing) out of the picture this weekend. I hope you can still get some good practice at the other courses and perhaps even, still make other arrangements to get on the Arsenal. I probably won't see any of you until the weekend of the Blast. Have fun.

Those coming with me on Sunday morning.

Chris Jaskolka can get us on the base first thing in the morning.

So we will likely play in this order

Redstone
Mastin
UAH

Getting lunch in between one of those rounds. All depending on how long it takes us to play the courses.

We can drive by Brahan so Micheal can see the forest for the trees. LOL.

Justin L

Well, I'd say my practice day couldn't have went much better....well...actually it could have...I could have been the one to ace #9 at Brahan Springs instead of TK... (nice ace by the way)

Got to play UAH in probably the worst wind i've played in there yet....It was nice to see TK, Dean, & Lavone were having trouble with it as well though.....makes me almost think they're human.

Didn't make Redstone....after we went over to Athens to play the TVT, then a windy round at UAH the best we could muster after that was Brahan...

Can't wait for the Blast!!

Parkntwoputt

I guess Birmingham just had the great luck in Huntsville this weekend.

Michael Davis Aced #10 at Mastin Lake, much to the dispare of the ace-less Jeremy Drake. Michael also hit a 150ft fairway ace to secure the duece on #18 at Mastin Lake. Again, Mr. Drake lost focus and missed his putt, lol.

Redstone was a blast like usual, with exception to my 6 on #14 (grumble grumble grumble).

Michael was officially schooled at UAH. The winds were kicking Sunday afternoon. But Bagger Drake managed to school the course with a stellar 55 in the shorts. Michael is now determined to only play hole #5 at George Ward to prepare for UAH.

We did learn one lesson. Do not play UAH as your thrid round of the day.:(

Tim Keith

I aced #9 at brahan's Saterday!
