View Full Version : Practise Tees

Where is a good place to purchase a practise tee? I would like one for the school I teach at. I have turned on about 5 or 6 seventh graders to disc golf. We're having mini tournaments around our campus using an object course. I would love to have a tee for them to practise on or have some putting contests. I have no school budget for this so it must be cheap! Another option is to build one. Has anyone ever tried to make one themselves? Do they last? Are there plans?

I built one a couple years ago. My wife bought me plans off the web for $20.00. I probably still have the directions, it lasted a while in the weather getting VERY little use. Not real sturdy, Tom probably has better idea's. He told me once you could take a piece of plywood and cut out a rectngle the size of a basket and throw through it, kind of a reverse. Let me know if you want me to look for the plans.

Yeah, a basket. I like the idea of a rectangle cut out of plywood but there's no ching! from the chains. You gotta have the ching!!

lol, just attach some chains :D
but in all reality there are some fairly cheap baskets around. They start around 60 I think (you could probably find cheaper if you dug deep enough). I have a pretty good one, Mach Lite from DGA ($140) portable, but yeah if you want good advice talk to tom, he may be able to get you a hook up. BTW, where do you teach?

Just received in the warehouse, M14's, and DX TRex. Cool design.
And a disc you have to see to believe, The Brick.

I teach high school and junior high science at a private school, Oak Mountain Classical. It's at the intersection of 119 and Cahaba Valley Trace (I think its Hwy 14?).

I've seen the pictures....did you get a wildfire as well? Those look...intersting.
The one disc i'm looking forward to checking out is one of the DT (dimple technology) discs from gateway. I've been wondering how long it would take golf ball tech to jump into disc golf.

Hey, sounds like someone having a positive influence on our kids.:)
Great job on showing them that there is something out there to do besides play video games.
That being said, I just spoke to Tom.
I made arrangements to buy an M-14 portable basket from him in the next few days for your school.
I will even throw in 8-10 disc that you can use as loaners.
You can pick everything up out at the park next week.
Enjoy.:D
Bill, you rock man. By the way, my baby needs new shoes... ;)

Dimple technology? Wouldn't that make the disc turn over?

WOW! I heard from the administration of this school that this community is a very supportive giving community, but I truly had no idea... Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm sitting here having lunch in my classroom with some students. I read them what you wrote and a cheer erupted from them. I think that means thank you from them, too! I am at GW on Sundays. I would love to meet you and shake your hand.

hey, if you're out there on sundays you might as well join us for some doubles... encourage the kids to come out as well. Lots of fun to be had by all. Very informal and a great course to develop their game.

I was hoping to join in with two of my sons this Sunday. The doubles is $3/person and at GW, correct? I don't know if my boys will compete but I'm sure they will want to play.

Yep...$3 at GW (this week). Your sons are more than welcome to tag along. If they aren't interested in doing the doubles thing (we're all happy to play with anyone) then we'll set you guys up in a foursome with your partner so you can all play together.

Jebb, you crack me up. Bill, that's really cool of you. I started playing disc golf (sadly enough when you look at my scores) 9 years ago (age 19) and was playing with the big frisbees when these two older guys gave me and my friends some discs to start out with. That kind of charity is still around today and I love seeing it!

Yep, I really do wish i could remember the name of the guy that took me and my buddies under his wing the first day we played.....I'd like to mail him a six back of beer.

Glad to see there is an interest in disc golf with the Oak Mountain Classical students! I'd really like to see enough interest in disc golf on this side of town for someone to put a course in somewhere (like at the Spain Park park, or at Herdmont, or someplace else along 119).

The dimpled driver was actually made by Dynamic/Destiny Discs a few years back. The whole thing was covered in dimples and it flew just fine. It just didn't go any further than the big dog driver of the day. It's interesting how the wheel keeps getting re-invented. With products and organizatons.
Yes, I do have the Wildfire/Crossfire/Backbone/Raging Inferno etc. Not for sale until they pass the test. Be glad to do show and tell. The Brick is wild.

I think it is great that you are taking the time to show your students that there is something out there besides video games. It sounds like you have already gotten everyone interested. Once they get a disc in their hand and take a few shots, I am sure the game will sell itself.
There is nothing more satisfying that when you plan a shot, make the throw and the disc does exactly what you planned.
Mind you, it rarely happens for me but...:D
Now for the trade off. You have to bring your family and some of your students out for doubles.
It is definately casual with kids and dogs (lots of dogs:) ) welcome.
We will make sure that everyone is matched up so that they have a great time.
Hope to see you Sunday at GW Doubles

Bill Im looking out my window at 9:57 wondering if yall are playing the budha round in the rain. So whats up. Is doubles still on for this aft I do want to see this wonderful gift of yours, and thanks for the dogs comment, you are a wonderful, patient friend whether partner or competitor when it comes to my wild young ruby the queen of the ridgebacks and terror of squirrels and trash cans, and you do always seem to have a spare disc, chair, or left hand to share. Seriously if you try to leave bham we are going to have to kidnap you and only let you out for golf.
The Old Guys, Stew, Ricky and I are sitting at the pavillion right now.
I am going to suggest that we meet here for doubles if it looks like the rain is going to stop.
Gregg if we get rained out, we will make arrangements to get together next week.

I wish I could but Israel, my oldest, has an indoor track meet in Priceville. Last Saturday after the meet we I took both my boys and two others to UAH and we played two rounds. It was a blast. The boys learned quickly the joys of water!! We might do that again next week. Will the doubles be at Trussville next Sunday?
gregg, yes its at trussville. check the sidebar to the left, justin keeps it updated with the next date/locale ;)
looking forward to meeting you all
