This weekends Alabama Amateur Open went well for Birmingham with 8 players from the Birmingham area in attendance. A total field of 72 competed in the amateur only event.

The event was very well organized thanks to the efforts of Chris Jaskolka and the Rocket City Chain Gang. With lunch provided for the players (free of charge!) on both Saturday and Sunday along with easy access to the Redstone Arsenal grounds for Sunday it was very clear from the start the preparation work that was involved.

Congratulations go out to Kris Allen for finishing in the cash in the flagship Advanced (MA1) division, finishing in a tie for fifth out of 13 players. Jeremy Drake finished second and came within one stroke of his first win in the Intermediate (MA2) division, with Viktor Holmberg and Ben Lunsford also coming home in the cash with finishes of 6th and 15th respectively. The Intermediate division was the largest in the tournament with a great field of 35 competitors.
