Hey everyone! My name is Chris Pierce. I will be moving to the Birmingham area early next year so, I figured I would get involved and start to meet everyone(online at least). So...What's Up?! I'm heavily involved in Disc Sports in general and especially Disc Golf and hope to get involved in the scene whenever I get there. I loved George Ward when I visited the last couple of times. Look forward to hearing from the locals!

you're really going to enjoy sat and sun mornings playing with Tom Monroe once you get here. Some call it the 'Buddha round' while others call it 'learning by osmosis' :D

i call it "heavily influenced radicalism by choice"

Yeah, I was wondering if I would get to play disc golf with Tom. Does he ever get on the Forum? I see he's a 999 Rated Player and over 50! There are only a handful of people with a rating that high over 50 years old.

Hey Chris! Glad to have another player in the area. You'll find that Birmingham has a thriving rec community and a growing tournament group.

Tom posts quite a bit as "drdisc", a few of the others have confusing nicknames that you'll find out over time as well.

Where are ya moving from?

Norman, Oklahoma is where I live now. I was wondering if you all had an official club with officers and meetings. I am the Secretary in our local club.

Welcome to Birmingham! Have you officially moved yet? If not, maybe we could have a celebratory "initiation round" to welcome you.

I think an initiation round does sound in order.

To answer your question Chris, we're a bit of an informal club for now. I'm the webmaster here and myself and Viktor (nickname bazkitcase on this board) run our bi-monthly events. I've only really been active in B'ham for about two years now but it seems like we're on the upswing with a lot of new tournament players making it out lately. Maybe a more definitive club is in the near future.

That all sounds great. I am guessing I will be there in late January. What are the regular days/times for mini tournaments during the winter?

We plan on continuing to do Sunday Doubles throughout the winter. The doubles are at 1:30 on Sunday and alternate between courses. There are usually 10-20 people out.

We do bi-monthly (as in every other month) singles mini that should be at George Ward in January, probably around mid month. This will be when our 2007 bag tags go on sale as well.

This club has exactly what we all need to hold onto for the next 30 or more years of our lives... ENTHUSIASM! It's great to be around folks that have this same addiction and are just happy to get out and feed their inner golf beast. What's even better is that we seem to be keeping it through the winter so far... Can't wait to meet you Chris... no chance you have a wife or girlfriend that plays too?

Bham has been through formal clubs, informal groups of guys, the whole run. We have a good core of guys that are involved week to week. Tom, TK and a couple others have been around a while (sorry TK, don't mean to make you sound old). We also have young enthusiastic blood like Justin. Then you have guys like me that blew our load in a 6 year span running 3-4 events a year. I should have spread it out a bit more. Nah, the 5 kids are what keeps me away now. And frankly its worth it. There will be plenty of time when they are grown to be an old disc golfer.

My main point has always been to tell peopel "I am gonna do xyz. Who wants to help?" Things get done that way. TK and Joe are good examples of that type of leadership.

I gave my two weeks notice a week ago. I will be officially moving the weekend of the 6-7th. Then I start work around the 15th at American Tube. I'll have a week or so to get to play alot of golf if the weather permits!! See you guys soon.:)

Awesome Chris, look forward to having you in the 'ham.

I was actually looking up a place to purchase leaderboards from the other day and came accross your name. Are you still "in the business"?

Guys guys guys.....I know you outnumber us(on the course) but there are a few of us women who are pretty hard core at the park and since we dont blow our load maybe we'll have staying power. The core is not just a dude thing and please encourage more women by not making it sound as such.....like some people who don't want to play Sunday doubles with a woman. bill and i came in 2nd last sunday.....thanks to bills great driving and birdying.....but i did park my 2nd shots mostly under the basket to make going for it the easy choice. Remember guys if you don't scare the women away they might play more.

Hey Chris, It was nice to meet you Sunday. Hopefully we can get together soon to play a round when it isn't raining and I don't have the flu..haha.

Next Sunday we will be having doubles at the Trussville course, there is a "back way" to get there from the fultondale/gardendale area but you'll have to get one of the locals to key you into that.

Hope to you see you out there!
