No one has asked me about this, but i want to have the information out there before it even comes up!
If anyone has any questions please ask me! I want to be completely transparent with the monies raised on behalf of DGB!
Bag Tag Accounting for 2006 (as of 10/19)
Money Received from Bag Tag Sales: 84 Tags x $5 = $420
(6 tags were given away to volunteers at Trussville on various workdays)
Expenses
$109.14 – Cost of 2006 Bag Tags
$39.83* – Supplies associated with DGB Mini Tournaments (office supplies, sign stakes, paint, etc)
$54.02 - Materials for Trussville tee-pads (2nd pour)
$50 – Additional donation to Trussville concrete fund following first DGB mini in June (to supplement tournament proceeds)
Total Income = $420
Total Expenses = $257.01
Amount Unused = $162.99
* The expenses above in no way reflect a total of what it costs to run the DGB mini’s. I know myself, Viktor, and many others spend a substantial amount of time and money running these events. The amount above is just for supplies that can _stay_ with the club, cash bags, pencils, paint, stakes, etc.
Expected Upcoming Expenses:
$30 – Good cashbox for DGB events and misc supplies
$150 – 2007 DGB Tags
Once next years tags are ordered and begin to sell I would like to devote some money to course improvements. Of course the Trussville concrete project will be ongoing, but I think some course improvements at GW are warranted as well.
What is something we could to GW for a low cost that would greatly improve the course? New tee signs are the first thing that come to mind, what else can you guys think off?
Assuming we keep the $5 price point and are able to sell as many tags as this year we should have about $300 to work with. In the event we want to do a course improvement project we will hold a mini to benefit it, which should raise an additional ~$75-$100 to benefit whatever cause we choose.

How about a trash can at Tee # 12 instead of just a garbage bag. Also, trash cans/bins at Tee # 5 and # 15 might be nice (seems I see a lot of water bottles/trash in the water at pin #4 and beer bottles at tee # 15).
If we do signs like TK did for Trussville I'll donate to get a set printed up for GW. There's not much work in just mounting them onto the existing poles out there. We'd simply need to repair some of the sign bases. As long as we get a good set of art, reprinting and replacing all those on demand would be a breeze.
I'd also look at renting a tiller and dirt packer combo then doing some grading work on extension pads D & E. Tee signs and new markers back there would also be a nice touch.
I have another idea, but I'm saving it for the next tourney ;)

trash cans aren't a bad idea, the only problem is if you're gonna stick somethin out on that course, with the number of homeless people and vandals at GW you're gonna have to have something that sticks in the ground... and locks

Who would empty the cans?

Exactly, both of those concerns (vandals/bums and who will empty them) had occurred to me. But, I think it is a good a suggestion to think about. Locks and posts would definitely be necessary. Who empties the can at the lot? (Isn't one there?) What about the bag by #12? Any way to get the Birmingham parks and rec to do that?

Monroe woudl have to verify but i think the can in the parking lot is emtied because its there, easy to get to. If the parks department actually had to go to the can they probably wouldn't empty it so you would either have to empty it or move the trash to a place they will pick up. Unless you get them to commit to emptying it if you donate the can. I know is huntsville they will empty the cans if we leave them in the parking lot or they will pick up the bags if we leave them in a certain place.

A simple solution to the trash issue is to place a container near the parking lot to store some plastic grocery bags. Every time you play, take an empty bag with you and fill it up along the course. Drop it in the can when you get back to the parking lot.... Oh Yeah, and anytime you catch someone littering, hit 'em upside the head.
I think some dough ought to be put towards additional benches at GW. The existing benches make waiting during tournaments a lot easier.
ps. I almost forgot, Justin, great job with this year's tags and the events you have run so far. We all like participating in such things, it just takes someone with initiative, like you, to make great things happen for the rest of us. I know we all appreciate it even if we don't always do everything we can to help.

All cans must be in the parking lot to get picked up. That is why we have been doing the bag thing on 12. A truck will not/can not get up there. They will not even drive down to #8 to pick up .
Benches on 6 ,7 and 8 would be great. New tee signs are a must.

Thanks Richard, I appreciate that. I have to admit I do most of this for pretty selfish reasons, I actually enjoy it...haha.
Ok, my thoughts:
Trashcans: I think this is a _good_ idea in theory. If we had trashcans at "easy to reach" areas like 1, 10, 14, 8, etc. it _might_ help and it would be easy to get those to a spot that the city would pick up (like 14, you'd have to walk down to the parking area). Maybe the solution is to get smaller cans with bags and just see if we can remember to take those out when we play. I also think Richards suggestion about have a "take a bag, pick up some trash" station is great. It's a small investment and could pay off well.
Tee signs: I think this is the best priority. I've been meaning to catch Tim out and see what it would cost to have signs like Trussville's made for GW. They might not be as rugged as some other solutions, but if the cost is less it might be a better solution.
Benches: I think this is a great opportunity for us to pickup a "sponsor". Surely someone knows someone who works at/owns a lumberyard and might be able to get us some materials at cost. Maybe contacting the city might help...a kind of "you provide the materials, we provide the labor" type thing might be applicable.
Thanks for posting up everyone, this is the kind of banter i was hoping for. Hopefully we can make some of these good ideas come to fruition.

Hey guys I can help with the trash bags. I will get one of my venders to donate a case of small kitchen size bags.;) We could mount a plastic container to hold a roll at a time there on #1 where the posting board is. This will do alot to clean up the park. I also believe we could do the same in Trussville too. Maybe when we promote our sport use this cleaning up to help push our sport to the community.:D

Just updating the thread to get the finalized accounting for the 2006 bag tags.

I seem to remember little trash cans on number poles next to the tee bags. Result overflows of beer bottles and vandalism by snapping the cans off. Chuck put a trash can out in the lot behind knights of columbus but it was platic and is now broken. Could the city perhaps put a metal can at that parking lot. Sure a trash can by the road at 14-15 would be great, but there is a trash can by the big pit grill on 16 and 1 or 2 in the pavillion there. In camping we always say pack out what you pack in. Of course if we could just get the cigerette smokers to stop throwing butts on the course that too would be nice. But maybe I live in a dream world. BTW whoever changes the bag out at twelve must be a saint.

I 2nd what Matt said....We appreciate everything you all do. Other than that one bad experience out on the course, the people make it a nice laid back enviroment to enjoy your game. Thanks to all!

I usually empty and re place the bag on 12. Also try to keep up with the chips on the practice hole.
If anyone has a pickup truck and can come out during days, we might be able to get a load of chips every now and then.
The small bags are a good idea. Maybe we could make a holder for them up on 12?
New tee signs are a great idea. I'll try to get a message to Chuck, who put out the last ones. Richard, do you still have his Email address?
BTW, if anyone plays during the day and see's the Parks guys who cut the grass, be sure and thank them for cutting the leaves.

Tom,
I don't think I ever had Bill's email. However, we need to make sure that whatever tee signs we make have the current pin placements shown with somewhat accurate distances.

Well, the good news is that the bag tags are in today! The bad news is they screwed up and got the sequential numbering wrong. I'm wating for a call back to see what they're going to do. The good news is that the order that came with it and the proof that I signed both show the numbering correct, so it shouldn't cost us anything, just them.
To be honest they're a little bigger than what I had hoped, but they're pretty cool.

I'd like to echo what everyone else has said Justin. Your efforts are appreciated. You'd better watch it, or you might be elected DGB Dictator For Life (DGBDFL)!
Jebb, good luck using a tiller in the back 6..a jackhammer would be more appropriate.
There might be a spare bench available that I made for Trussville. It was designed to be mounted in the ground. Digging two holes 20 inches deep by Hole 8 might be a real task. If someone wants to dig the holes and buy a few bags of concrete, send me an email and we can coordinate. :)

Lil, they look ok to me. Probably open a brew better. What did they mess up on the numbering?

Joe,
I'm just glad i've got a job where i sit around and wait for stuff to break. Gives me plenty of time to work on stuff like this...haha.
Ben,
There aren't any numbers...at all. I'm hoping this means that they'll just send me another shipment with the numbers on them, maybe I can get them to do them in a different color and we can give these away as prizes or something...hrmmm...
