Next RMP Public Meeting Set for Tuesday, Oct. 24

"Design Firm Wallace, Roberts & Todd returns the week of October 23 to present a preliminary draft of the Red Mountain Park Master Plan. The public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Arrington Auditorium of the Birmingham Public Library downtown branch. The planners will be looking for community response to the ideas they present and gathering a final round of input before completing the park's master plan by this December. If you've been to previous meetings, come see how your ideas are taking shape. If you haven't come out yet, come out, show your support and add your voice."

We need DGB volunteers to attend this meeting!! I will probably attend if I am in town, just to see how much influence we have had up to this point. Like I said in a previous post, I think that we stand a very good chance of having disc golf as an integral part of this exciting new park in B'ham.

Keep this date on your calendars and let's make a good impression on the designers.

I will make time to be at the meeting next week.
It would look good to have at least 4-5 disc golfers attend.
Who else is available?
If we present ourselves well and have positive and well thought out input for the design commitee, there is potential for a lasting impact on disc golf in Birmingham.
Where else are we going to find this much available land with funds attached to do things right?
We should consider teaming up and working with some of the other groups (bicyclers, runners, naturalist,etc) to build toward common goals. If we show our openness to shared usage, we have a far better chance of achieving our goals.

I got there around 6, saw Tom Monroe. Didn't notice any other dgb people if you were there. I cut out a bit early, but managed about 45 mins. This park is going to be massive.

Thanks for going Jebb. Too bad the reat of you couldn't make it. I spoke with one of the main guys and he said we should definitely make a showing at these meetings. During his Power Point Presentation he mentioned and showed pix of disc golf 2 or 3 times. During an other scene of a large open field he mentioned picnics and throwing Frisbees.
Everyone should really try to attend the meting in Dec.

Yeah, I've had crappy luck with these on the last few, always out of town.

He did say that is important that we continue to attend. The Dec meeting will wrap it up for the Design Team from Phill. Then a local committee will take over. Those are the people we need to keep in touch with. Disc Golf can always be pulled at the last minute. Remember Alabaster.? So, it is very important that we keep on top of this all the way to the end.
