Yep, that is what I heard at approximately 5:40pm yesterday while warming up for a local mini. I was with a buddy throwing distance shots in a field when I went to throw my 5th shot from the area.

My right plant foot hit the ground and slipped out from underneath me. I did this just as I started my forward hip/shoulder spin, my legs went out from underneath me and I did a spinning style kick. I came around and landed on my left ankle. When I landed I heard two very loud pops and I smacked face first into the ground.

The emergency room said I definately had a very bad sprain, and the x-ray techs suspected that a line on my lower leg bone was a fracture. I find out at my ortho surgeon appointment on Friday to confirm or deny the break. If it is broken I am definately out for the remainder of the 2006 season. I am hoping for only a sprain. I will post the final verdict once I find out.

Sounds familar. I feel/felt your pain, a few years ago in Atlanta. Get an MRI if you can to find the fracture that an X ray can miss. Good luck.

Hey Kris, want to play for bag tags... In all seriousness, hope you get healed up soon.

Ben, I have something like #88 or similar. I bought it only to challenge the great bagger drake. You probably have a better number then me, and would most likely win, LOL! but wouldn't it suck to be beaten by a cripple?:o

The only good news is that my new player rating won't go down in the next update. 12/19/06 because I doubt I will be tournament ready by then.

I will probably be pulling a "thacker" out on the course, wearing a walking cast throwing sidearms!:D

Sever sprain, damaging a lot of soft tissue at the bottom front outside of the foot.

But.....

I have two fractures, one on each tibia and fibula. I am out for a long time. The doctor said at least 6-8 weeks until I could even attempt a backhand run up. I am thinking that after 6 weeks, I could be out at the course throwing sidearms and other stand still trick shots, including putting practice. A back hand run up might be a good Christmas present, as I will have to continue rehabing the tendons and muscles. The doctor said I was lucky because there was no displacement of the bones, the fractures are basically just lines up and down the bones.

I will be on crutches for at least the next week. I have an ankle brace that looks like Tom's but on Sterioids. I can wean my self off of crutches as I feel comfortable. The doctor does not expect me to start putting weight gingerly on it for at least a week.

So...I am looking on the bright side. I will have almost three solid months of relearning my game, but it is like riding a bike I will just have to get back in the groove. But in the mean time, I will be able to work on some of the lacking things in my game, like putting, sidearms and overhands.

So I am ending 2006 as an Amateur, and will enter 2007 as a professional. I will probably hit up a C-tier to start so I would have a chance to cash.

Maybe you can perfect the Twist putt, during rehab.

Maybe you can perfect the Twist putt, during rehab.

That is true, but I will also at least be able to regular putt.

If anyone else has ever had a sports injury where it put them out for a season or most of can relate to this story.

Of course after being laid up for 4 days not using my foot at all, it had stopped throbbing (obviously from lack of use). Well, like any athlete, I was thinking I was just being a wussy and that my injury really wasn't that bad. Well I was working on my living room floor, when I went to get up. I tried getting up carefully knowing I could not use my foot, but I slipped. The body's instincts kicked in, and I tried to catch myself.....with my left leg.

Ouch! Dang that hurt! I collapsed in sever pain.

Guess I really did break it. :( :o

Saw the doctor on Oct. 20th. He said that my progress was going good, and yet he was not surprised by my limitations, such as heavy weight bearing, rolling, and range of motion.

However, judging by my progressive continuous improvement, I will be hitting the course for the first time since I broke my ankle on Saturday November 11th.

It will be shaky, and I will probably wear my brace as a precaution. But I am going to play it by ear. I am not going to worry about loss of distance until I regain full strength in my ligaments, but I have until mid February until I have to compete again.

If I can get my accuracy and putting back before the new year I will be pleased, and then work on distance in 2007.

Wish me luck!

Sounds like you don't need much distance on those courses anyway.
Stick to the rehab and get everything built up around the injury. With stong support around the fractures you should be as good as new.
Remember, I played on that stupid fracture for 3 months before the MRI found what the Xray missed. Then it was two months of rehab and 3 months of wearing those ankles braces. Hey, no telling what the new distance disc will be by then. Ask Randy what his new long driver is. I bet Innova will have something to beat it before New Years! BTW, we played in mid 70's today.

This weekend at the best public course in the area, I threw almost 350ft!

Not too bad considering I cannot get any force on my hip turn during my run up. So effectively my run up is only as effective as a stand still throw, but I am happy. Midrange distance is still hovering around 320ft.

So I am guessing I might actually have gained distance with this injury considering the longest standstill throw I threw in the past was barely under 300ft!

So the added inch circumference in my shoulders and inch added in each upper arm from being on crutches for three and a half weeks was more beneficial then just keeping me off my feet.

Inferno.!!

Is that Tom plugging a Gateway disc? ?

Actually I have thrown the Inferno. I threw the ones that had the smooth top with a grainy rim.

The day I tested the Inferno was the day I broke my ankle. No relation though, I actually broke it on a throw with the Surge.

The Inferno is a great disc but was a tad too flippy for me, reminded me of a Flash or a faster 1st Run Crush. I will stick to the Surge for now.

They are supposed to come out with a better plastic Inferno. Perhaps more overstable.

since kris already had this lovely thread about his injury update, I figured I'd go ahead and update you guys on how I'm doing. After going back into the hospital the wednesday before thanksgiving week to treat a blood clot I'd developed in my right leg, I got out this past monday and couldn't really move my leg too well. I'm happy to say that now after about a week of oral blood thinners and self-injected shots in the stomach of another blood thinner, I can move my leg :D . I can actually get around pretty well now, not very quickly, but if I need to walk I can with minimal pain. In order to test the leg I decided to go to the course for some putting. After how it felt today and the progress my leg is making each day I'm hopeful that in two weeks I can be back out on the course full time... too bad it'll be too cold by then  . Anyways, just lettin you guys know how I'm doin. Hope you all had a great thanksgiving and I'll see you soon.

Jeremy, i had some clotting issues after a surgery I had a while back. Those self injected blood thiners suck. Whatever you do don't stand up to fast...holy cow..haha.

Short update for you guys... I'm feeling no pain in my leg from walking around. I've been cleared for light activity, so ith that said I will try and hit the course as early as tomorrow and see how much ground I have to make up. I don't know what time I'll be out there, but it'll probably be in the afternoon, sometime around 2 or 3 if anyone will be around.

Just take it easy for a while though man. I know that my soon-to-be 35 y/o bones don't feel too good after two rounds (after Tuscaloosa I thought my right leg was going to fall off.) Would hate to see you get re-injured. Want to see you on the course all summer 2007....
