View Full Version : Free as a Breeze free (really) tournament Huntsville June 27th

The Free as a Breeze free disc golf tournament will be held Saturday June 27th in Huntsville, AL.

For obvious reasons this will be a trophy only event.

Late registration 0800-0900 at Mastin Lake Park.

0915 - Player's meeting
0930 - start

Round 2 at Brahan Spring Park one hour after the last card is in.

The field is limited to 72 players and you can preregister by posting your intent to attend here (Full name please). Please do not sign up if you are not serious about coming.

My intent with this tournament is to get some recreational players exposed to tournament golf and try out the trophy only format to see what response I get from players. There will be a small player pack and tee sponsorships at $10 each are welcome. Please specify hole and course if you want a specific hole. Sponsorship $$ will go toward SN fees, player packs and trophies.

There will be the usual divisions as long as I have 3 or more players to fill one and there will be a SUPER CLASS division as well. You youngsters can laugh at the scores we rack up throwing our old school lids around the course.

I'm excited about giving this a try. The PDGA refused my Competition Endowment Program application so unless they see the light it will just be SN sanctioned.

Alright Jeb! Start practicing with those Wham-O pro flyers and fastbacks. Zephyrs and Ultrastars are also approved Super Class discs. I plan to play Super Class myself. I figure par will be a really good score with these lids even on the short courses. Right now I'm liking a max weight Zephyr. I think I'll use a Boss for a marker ;-).

Matt,
Great idea. Sounds like fun. Going to miss the Solstice this year. Rather sure I can put this one on my calender. Not sure about Super Class, tho, but those 2 courses seem like a good fit. Oh, and I think I can handle the entry fee. :)

So, does this mean that SN HAS seen the light and are also offering a FeeWaivingOption for one of their qualifiers?

Ron,

I still have to pay the SN fees but at $2 a pop I think I can get the sponsorship to handle that. SN will waive the fees for charity events which this is not.

It looks like Super Class players will get SN points. I'll be reporting scores in your regular division so the $2 goes to that division for the SNAC in 2010 and you will be qualified for that year. The tournament is too late to qualify for 2009.

Put me down as a REC player. We will be there.

Ken,

Will do. I'm checking with the SN folks but I'm fairly sure the Rec and Novice divisions are non-point divisions so if you want to qualify for the 2010 SNAC you would have to play intermediate. Junior is a qualifying division.

No doubt Jeff. You get my message? Jacob got so sick we had to come home. He was throwing up and couldn't hold anything down. Jordan lost your # with his window rolled down. Then he falls asleep at the wheel and goes off into the median and we nearly wreck. Can't believe we didn't. He luckily saved the car when he yanked it back onto Hwy 78. I was looking down at his Garmin for directions when I heard the tires hit that shoulder area and looked over to see him asleep and shouted his name. Crazy and scary all at the same time. Holler at me when you can. Need your # again.

Has anyone ever thrown a disc called the Maximizer?

It is slightly larger in diameter than a modern driver and the rim profile looks a lot like a Valkyrie. It's supposed to be a great beginner driver, slightly understable with great glide. I'd like to throw the one I got compliments of Little Flyer but I'll probably save it for a CTP during the tourney. Hopefully I'll get another one with the mini order for the Free as a Breeze.

Yes, all Super Class are one division unless I get 3 ladies. With these courses and no pros playing SC I think it's anyone's trophy to win.
