I'm getting ready to order or 2k7 Bag Tags, and I wanted to get some feedback from those that purchased one this year.

IMO I think we should stick with the $5 price point. We sold more than i would have ever imaginend and I think it was because they were cheap and had some novelty to them.

To that end i'm thinking about these as this years tags.

They're also bottle openers....as well as carbiners (i suppose)

They're a bit more expensive than this years but we will still clear $3 in club donation per tag sold.

Also in the running are these carbiner keychains....

These flashlight thingies (dead batteries? breakable?)

And personally i think these mini-harmonicas would _rock_ but man that would get annoying quick...

To ensure delievery in time for our January bag tag match (ice bowl?) i need to get these ordered by 10/15. Let me know what you guys think!

My vote is for the first pic, none of the others are really even in the running since they dont serve the most important function which is opening beer :D

I think the flashlights are pretty cool. Those small flashlights usually last pretty long and are fairly durable. Besides, you can keep your 2006 bottle opener on your bag.

my vote goes for either the flashlight or the carabiners. Like Maj said, you can use this years as a bottle opener. A flashlight always comes in handy as well... especially if you play night golf

i think i'm safely speaking for my group as a whole when i say a bottle opener is the best for us.

My vote goes to the carabiners. I have no use for the bottle openers. Besides, you do get to keep this year's tag, so those that need one have one. The mini harmonicas are sweet too!

Both the first and second ones seem like they would be easy to put on and take off.

just curious, not tryin to start a war or anything here, but should would consider some more stipulations to bag tag challenges. My main reason for this suggestion is to promote more dynamic moving of tags and hopefully encourage players who don't know each other or normally play with each other to play outside of their groups and help the club become even more active.

like what? Gotta throw out some ideas if you're going to bring it up. :)

well how bout a maximum tag number difference for challenges. In other words... 80 can't straight up challenge 1. Maybe do within 10. Or if you wanted to challenge outside of that I like Tom's suggestion of adding a little more incentive. The person with the lower tag number has nothing to lose. Say for instance number 5 is challenged by number 30. 30 has nothing to lose in this challenge. However, 5 is not just dropping, but basically plummeting. Tom suggested for situations like this that maybe the highger tag number should purchase a disc for the lower tag number in the event of an outright win for the lower tag. So 30 challenges 5 and loses, 30 buys 5 some cheap plastic. Again, just a suggestion, obviously if everyone likes the open format stick with it.

The problem with differential especially if you sell your tags out of town is that alot of tags end up leaving town and leaving you with gaps. Point in case, Huntsville, even though we have only a handful of tags out of town, we still have a hard time finding folks within 10-20 of each other. Alot of folks buy the tags or membership just to support the club. They really dont care about the tag challenges and some hardly ever play at all. It's tough to institute rules of that nature. The best thing I have seen is manadotory turning at registration for all singles rounds played as long as everyone is playing the same tees. We started doing that recently and seems to get them shuffled a little more but its sad when you can't hardly track down any of the top 20 tags.

makes sense. my main basis for it really wasn't necessarily to stop giant leaps, but maybe induce some people to break out of their golf clicks and meet new people

In the first post you said "more dynamic" but the example you gave would be the opposite, everyone would tend to hold on to thier tags.

Yeah, I think a Bi-monthly reshuffle is about the best we're going to get. I think the probably with setting a challenge window is that you will 1) get the rules to complicated, no one will participate 2) end up with a stagnant swapping pool. In general, if you make the rules to hard no ones going to participate. This should be treated less as a "ranking" of golfers and more as a fundraiser to the club.

I know you haven't been at the mini events Jeremy, but we've actually been tossing up the numbers pretty good. At the last event 47 tags were turned in and reshuffled. That's almost 60% of what we sold, I'd say all things considered thats pretty good!

I don't think anyone should have to buy a disc just to get a challenge thats just wrong!

Yes, #1 looks pretty cool. Besides who wants a harmonica that who knows else has put their mouth all over...

I vote #1, Beer is good mmmk!

Also, I think to have a monthly or bi-monthly bag tag shuffle would be a good idea. Just a relaxed tourny type thing. That way people like myself and my friends who play only with each other can have a chance to gain a lower bag tag rather than just passing around the 4 or 5 tags that we have within our group. It would also get us to know other local players so that when we decide to come out and play by ourselves we will know kind of who we're up against to decide if we actually want to challenge other players. And/or have a list posted on this site or the board at george ward as to the current standings on bag tags and their owners maybe updated after every tag shuffle.

Well we already have bag tag challenges in place. We've had two thus far and the third is still in the process of being worked out. These are very casual tournaments designed to both introduce new players to tournament style play and as you suggested allow everyone to meet all the golfers that play our great course. Just keep checkin the site for more details.

Justin is exactly right about 2 points, the main point of bag tags is to raise money for your club & the $5 price point is great. $5 is nothing for an out of towner to pay for a bag tag. I bought one thinking that I would never play for it, but have played for it 3 times already.

Something like these could be cool if there was a way to get custom ones printed with a dgb logo and have them numbered sequentially:

2007 :)

Actually, we'll probably "roll them out" at the first '07 bag tag challenge tournament mid Jan.
