Me and a friend are heading up to Richmond, VA next week for some concerts. I was wondering if anyone knew of some courses up in the area worth playing? Thanks, Greg

I'm actually at Ft. Lee, VA right now, about 15 minutes from Richmond. I've played the two courses listed in the PDGA course directory for Richmond in the last few days. (I don't ever count 9-hole courses).

Dorey Park http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=879

Description: Recreational, but long tees make it challenging. Both open and tight holes in woodsy setting with elevation.

Gillies Creek Park http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=878

Description: Short and open with a few wooded holes. Good view of the city skyline.

I'd have to recommend Dorey over Gillies Creek. imho, Gillies is poorly laid out, with crisscrossing, convoluted holes and fairways, hard to find your way around without a local guide, no tee signs,... what more can I say?

Give me a call if you're going to be up here before Sep 22. I'd be happy to show you around either course.
