Here's hoping everyone had a very safe and happy Holiday season! We applaud each and every one of our club members for their support via membership in Disc Golf Birmingham. Without a thriving and supportive membership DGB wouldn't have been successful! This is our yearly call for new signups and renewals, and everyone's support through club membership makes all the difference.
Some club accomplishments and support over the past term:
- two DGB-sponsored charity tournaments (Firehouse & Hulsey Little River Trust) which donated over $5000 total, each with significant player payouts
- finished pro tee pad install and concrete pour at John LeMaster in Trussville
- new pin placements added at John LeMaster in Trussville with more to come
- two new baskets at George Ward Park on 5 long and 13 long for a permanent pro option
- finalized new tee signs and mando signs at George Ward Park
- new basket locks at George Ward Park
- new bridges, bag poles and benches at John LeMaster in Trussville
- worked closely with Birmingham Parks and Rec to insure amicable install of new walking track
- general repair, upkeep at George Ward Park and Civitan Park courses
- Tom Monroe installed two new courses in Heflin and Montevallo, many thanks to Tom!
- DGB work day in support of Habitat For Humanity
Additionally, DGB was able to host several PDGA-sanctioned tournaments with great payouts and we assisted with many more. Without support from the DGB membership, we would not have managed the vast majority of these accomplishments. 2009 brings new opportunities and goals for us all, such as finally installing concrete pads & teesigns in the back 6 of George Ward and also looking at opportunities for installing new courses in the area. We also hope to host a total of 3 charity events this year!
The new membership packages will be available for pickup at DGB tournaments beginning with the Ice Bowl on Feb 7, 2009 and Yellowhammer Tour stops thereafter. This year's membership package will include 2009 DGB Bag Tag, DGB Logo Golf Towel, DGB Stamped Club Member Mini and club voting rights which includes access to the private DGB Members forum.
Online membership renewals can be submitted by visiting http://www.discgolfbirmingham.com/store (NOTE: the store uses its own account system separate from the forums, so you will need to register a store account to get started)
If you'd rather not pay the 4.5% online processing fee and/or shipping charges, you can obtain a membership form from a DGB Club Officer (or print a form using link below) and submit payment to to an officer in person. The good news is that dues haven't gone up since club inception 2 years ago and remain $20 for full membership (those not wishing to join the club may still purchase a bag tag at the $5 'supporter' level and still compete for tags in league play and tournies). All 2008 club members will retain access to the members forum until Feb 15, 2009 at which time we will bring the 2009 membership roster and forum permissions up to date.
