are yall gonna have mulligans for extra cans
From what I understand there should also be player's packs!!
It is a charity event. Why not put the money that would be spent on players packs into the charity? Even if the players pack is going to be donated you can ask for less value in cash to add to the charity.

We are going to have lots of different extras for the tournament that hopefully will raise a good amount for the charity ! Should have all the details worked out this weekend !

How did we arrive at the 2nd Annual? I know Ron Pittman ran one a few years back. We filled his truck up with food and deliverd it to a church in 5 Points.

why not a PDGA event so we can get round ratings?

TK
If you use the CEP, the player fees can be donated to the charity as well. The $50 sanctioning fee is all you pay the PDGA.
ChrisP.
01-06-2009, 08:07 AM
No $50 sanctioning fee = More money to charity.
No TD Report, No sanctioning agreement, No uploading scores = less headache.
Selling mulligans = More money to charity + more fun.
No round ratings = relax and have some fun and not worry about your score.

Maybe it's the third annual?

In my opinion,
PDGA=more players especially out of towners
More players=more money for the charity
Marc D
01-06-2009, 10:19 AM
Let's go with "2nd annual" since we haven't had consecutive annual events (as far as I am aware).
I agree with Chris on the sanctioning, the goal is to relax & play in a fun tournament while raising money for a very worthy charity that helps those less fortunate than ourselves.
If you use the CEP, the player fees can be donated to the charity as well. The $50 sanctioning fee is all you pay the PDGA.
Unless the CEP rules have changed, this is only true as long as you don't have more players than the $350 will cover. For the 2008 AAO Tom and I had to come out of pocket with roughly $200 in additional fees due to the high number of non and non-current members.
Edit:
I do not mean to imply that the CEP isn't a great program. I am sure it was part of the reason we had such a good turnout. You just have to be aware of the caveats.
with the player's packs and getting to play for the new 09 DGB bagtag placings, there's plenty of incentive to play in addition to supporting a worthy charity.
There will be PDGA sanctioned tournies just before and just after our Ice Bowl, so no sweat :)
ChrisP.

In my opinion,
PDGA=more players especially out of towners
More players=more money for the charity
Don't think were going to get many out-of-towners, here's just a few Ice Bowls going on the same day as ours...
Wall Doxey Ice Bowl - Holly Springs, Mississippi
Knoxville Disc Golf Ice Bowl - Knoxville, Tennessee
Joel Viggers Memorial Ice Bowl - Chattanooga, Tennessee
Second Annual JP Moseley Ice Bowl - Stockbridge, Georgia
Tim k
01-06-2009, 03:56 PM
are we going to be playing for 09 bag tags in the ice bowl?
TK
yes (seems you didnt read the thread?) - I added to the first post though.
Tim k
01-06-2009, 04:15 PM
then how can you play with mulligans, that doesn't seem fair, it should be regular rounds to determine bag tags. JMO
TK
I can't speak definitively for Marc or Chris, but I would imagine thats why there are limit 2 per round and no other type of mulligans such as the 'dirty' mulligan. Remember, you too can take advantage ;)
Marc D
01-06-2009, 04:27 PM
Still an even playing field for all, unless you choose to not to take advantage of them.
Also don't forget that the top 10 cash donators (I assume the mulligan purchase counts towards the total $ donated) will draw for the Innova Traveler.
I plan to also donate a sweet prize for the person who brings the most canned food :)
Marc D
01-06-2009, 06:57 PM
Yes, the mulligans, hole sponsorships & any additional cash you want to contribute all count towards the Innova Traveler Basket Giveaway

Discs are in!!
First 60 players to sign up (Pros included!) get a Gateway Disc Sports putter!
We ordered: Wizards - Regular & Soft, Magics - Regular & Soft, & the new Voodoo!

01-12-2009, 10:05 PM
Rothstein bought discs from Gateway instead of Innova?
From what I gather, disc mfr choice was given as long as you used their IceBowl 2009 logo...and Gateway makes some really nice putters!
ChrisP.
01-13-2009, 08:23 AM
Ice Bowl HQ has discs from Innova, Discraft & Gateway, Millenium & Little Flyers this year.

if i buy 4 mulligans...what happens if i dont have to use them all? will the extras be taken off the card as a stroke? if not i guess you have to buy them before each round?
ChrisP.
01-14-2009, 09:44 AM
You use 'em or you lose 'em! Don't worry. More about the mulligans & use of them will be detailed at the event....
The important thing right now is we need HOLE SPONSORS so we can get the course into the proper layout.
* Hole Sponsorships available for $25 --- Hole sponsor gets to select the pin position played in the tournament for that hole (see flyer (http://www.discgolfbirmingham.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=170&d=1231187345) or contact TD (http://www.discgolfbirmingham.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=96) for more details)
are you planning on making every 30 foot putt? ;)

The hole sponsorships are going to be split 1/3 to the Pro payout, 1/3 to the Am payout, and 1/3 to the charity.
Please let us know if you are going to sponsor a hole by Thursday, Feb 5th so we can get the course moved into the correct layout before the tourney.
So hurry & get your hole so you can pick the position you want to play before someone else snags it !!
Here is list of the hole sponsors so far:
Hole 1 -- Long -- georgewardpark.org (Jebb Long)
Hole 2 -- Middle -- Marc Dobson
Hole 3 -- Right -- Bill Thornton
Hole 4 -- Extra Long (6's right position) -- Chris Pierce
Hole 5 -- Long -- Tim Keith
Hole 6 -- Left -- Justin Knowles
Hole 7 -- Long -- Still Available for Sponsor
Hole 8 -- Temp Left -- Chris Pierce
Hole 9 -- Short -- Still Available for Sponsor
Hole 10 -- Right -- georgewardpark.org (Jebb Long)

Bump...
You can post on here which hole you want or you can select the hole when you register online.
georgewardpark.org - holes 1 and 10 please :)
1 in long
10 to far right (which also means 18 can't be long right)
Marc D
01-21-2009, 06:28 PM
Thanks Jebb ! Updated hole list above...
5 down, 13 left !
Sorry, I told ChrisP but should have posted here.
I moved #1 into the long position before doubles and I was going to take it but U can have it if U want. I like the long position so I am good with picking another.
I want #3 in the right position if U want #1.
Fine by me if we swap signs Bill, positions stay the same :)
OK, I will take #3 in the right position if you can put me down for that. :D
I am suprised that the pros aren't jumping on 5, 7, 13, 14 & 16.
They always want the longs so here is their chance.
The sooner people select their sponsorship holes the sooner we can get them moved.
Come on people step up and support the Ice Bowl.
ChrisP.
01-22-2009, 08:04 AM
The pros decided to go to Florida for a sanctioned event that weekend, so it appears they are not interested in pin positions. Maybe they're still interested in sponsoring?
Marc D
01-22-2009, 11:44 AM
Thanks Bill !
For the pros that do decide to play that will mean a sweeter payout since 1/3 of the hole sponsor money goes toward the Pro payout !
I smell a lower-numbered bagtag coming :)
If the pros are on the road then I will try to sneak off with some of the cash and a low bag tag.:D
I will move 3 & 10 today. Text me if you get any more sponsorships and I will make the moves.
Marc D
01-22-2009, 12:43 PM
Thanks Bill ! Also, move 6 to the left (up on the hill) if you get a chance. Knowles sponsored that one.

01-24-2009, 09:48 PM

Glen Iris Southpaw
01-25-2009, 12:12 AM
actually change me to 11 short ace race. that really is the smart choice and i believe john roberts was saying he really wanted to put it up to the left. I told him I would back off.

Got ya down for 11 !
7 holes taken, 11 left !
1, 3, 6, 10 and 11 are moved.

I talked to TK and I am going to leave 13 in the 15 right position for the bag tag challange tomorrow.
I will move 15 right after the 2nd round tomorrow.
Hole 5 we can leave like it is and I will bring a garbage bag to cover the mid position basket.
Come on people!!!!
Step up with the sponsorships so that we can get the locations set and practice before the Ice Bowl.
Marc D
01-31-2009, 04:50 PM
7 hole sponsorships left.
Here are the holes still left open: 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18
I'm taking hole 2 in the middle position & I will wait to take whatever is left with my 2nd one.
Marc D
02-01-2009, 05:09 PM
Justin is taking 13 long. 6 spots left ! The layout is shaping up into one of the toughest tourney layouts we've had in a while, should be interesting to see the scores. Remember, No Wimps - No Whiners !
Tomorrow I will move 13 and 15.
Glen Iris Southpaw

I'm currently uploading all the photos from yesterday. They will be a while uploading, probably taking about two hours. I hope you find one of yourself...and that you like it.
On another note, while photographing, I was able to view the course and players from more of a non-players attitude. I have to say, particularly during a tournament, it really looks bad to outsiders to see players drinking and smoking, no matter what they're smoking. With as many local entities wishing to take the park space away from Disc Golf for other uses, it would be a shame for them to do so by making us disc golfers out to be a bad influence or problem in the park. I'm personally glad to enjoy a beer myself, guilty as the rest of us. But going forward, I, for one, am going to avoid any public displays of 'illegal' behavior in the park. It's just not smart.
Sorry to rant, even mildly. Enjoy the photos.

I will say that, in Ray's defense, these were not his typical rounds. We are good buddies, & I usually spot him at least 3 or 4 strokes per 18 at GW, and then it is pretty competitive ! But agreed, he's a bagger ! ;)

To take the "impressions" topic a little further, we should all be mindful that the park is our park, and we should treat it like we own it. Pick up that piece of trash that someone else may have thrown down. (We now have more trash cans as part of the new "cement creeks" project. Use them!) Behave as though each person who sees you will base their behavior on yours, so set good examples for them to follow. Smoking, drinking and loud profanity, while perhaps enjoyable for the ones who are doing it, may not provide the same enjoyment for others who aren't doing it. Be respectful of the rights of others. Think outside of yourself.

Very well said. If nothing else there are numerous small, influential children's whose parents may not want to have the "daddy, whats that funny smell. that doesn't smell like a cigarette" discussion quite yet

dear Art,
we really enjoy you comming out and taking pics of us playing. i hope the opinions of others doesnt keep you from hooking us up with those awsome pictures you take because we really need that publicity and your interest is great for tournaments. i appologize if the critisizm didnt make much sense but i hope you will still offer your time to come out and be a part of the Birmingham disc golf community. Thanx for your honesty and having a set to say whats on your mind.

i hope art does not find any of this to be critisism but rather discussion. I know he enjoys bringing his dog out to the park as much as the rest of us. and he always takes the most rockin pics.

Also, when I try to click on some of the individual pics it give me an "internal server error" message in Explorer ? Any ideas why ?

Justin, You looked to me like you were practicing Tai Chi..But i think it's call follow through. Good one too.
I wasn't criticizing regards to how we appear to outsiders, just noting it for discussion. As for me n Henry, just try to keep us away! We LOVE GW and the DGB community.
I did have 'issues' uploading the photos. I tried to reload half of them that didn't go the first time. Ended up with duplicates and some still not posted. I'm so Hi Tech!

Intermediate --------- 61.6
Novice --------------- 67.6
