I worked in Chicago for several months in 2004 but I did not try the ball golf course.
I tried several courses none of which were especially memorable except The Oaks in Mokena Ill. It is one of the best courses I have ever played. 27 holes and 3 tee pads on most holes. I would drive from downtown Chicago to the course several times a week. If you ever get the chance, play this one, it will be one to remember.

Here is a picture of one of the holes. You can see the work that was done to the course to set up this basket.

When they were installing a catch basin for rain water, the park manager came out to the course to discuss where the best location would be to enhance the layout of the DG course.

Maybe someday Birmingham Parks and Rec will take this kind of interest in the sport.

I played that course a few years ago, and it was awesome!! Great holes in a great park. I did not find another course in the area that was nearly as nice as Mokena.

If you ever find yourself in Massilon, Ohio, southwest of Akron, play their course. It is one of the best I have ever played, set in a Zoo from the mid 1800s. The front nine at Hudson Springs in Hudson is also short but very sweet!!

Thanks Joe, I may just give it a try while I'm up. Are many of the holes par fives?

I don't remeber if any were specifically par 5s, but there were some crusher holes. The beauty of the park is worth the trip!

If you are talking about Mokena Oaks, they only show one Par 5 @550 yards.
There is a score card with yardages and pars at this link:
