Ben and I checked out Brahan and Mastin Lake on Labor Day:

Brahan- crazy imposing when you park. like 3000 pine trees that were squished together by some sadistic disc god. its short- but theres always 20 pine trees between you and the basket. in theory if one could throw a disc dead straight, then you'll have a blast. on occasion i did just that it was good. other times i heard that sound that you can probably only hear in Brahan- a dead on smack of a dx teebird into a pine tree. its different from that sound at trussville or GW. more echo. should have probably stuck with the buzz but sometimes you see that magical hyzer line and have to try it. oh by the way my teebird goes right now.

mastin lake- great course. challenging but not ridiculous. plenty of variety. my favorites were the giant downhill holes...where you definately don't want to go off the front of the elevated box. as an aside, knowing a little about teepad pouring, that must have sucked. strangely, the signs at mastin rate most of the holes as par 4s. so you'd have to really try to leave there feeling bad about your score.

we left at 9am and were back around 4. great little trip and i'll do it again.

on a side note i got a esp buzz and have sunk THREE shots from outside of a hundred feet with it in about 3 weeks. one of them, on hole 3 at GW went through one of those trees they trimmed. through it. the other was an upshot on 9 and last sunday at doubles i hit one over the hill on 14. if a man could love a disc in this crazy mixed up world, that man would be me, and that disc would be my buzz. it also participated in my +6 round at GW, making my hoo-haaing about the +9 round silly.

good old brahan... very famous sound of disc on pine. of the courses I've played... definately 2nd worst in my opinion (I played a 9 hole at Deer Lick in Atlanta, don't play it) only because of the real lack of variety. I'd call it a great rec and beginner course, or if you're in the huntsville area lookin for a quick round, go for it. Mastin is my favorite course (sorry to dissapoint those of you who think I like to just bomb shots. I'm an accuracy player ;) ) of the four up there. Lots of variety, elevation and tough shot making. Try out UAH next time, but bring an extra arm and maybe some old plastic to throw over the water holes. And if you can get on redstone I'd call it at Longer, flatter GW. Very pretty with lots of good holes.

B.Springs is one of the oldest in the country. The trees used to be so thick you could not see the stadium from the parking lot. They used to be so thick you could not see through to the back holes.
It was used in the World's in both 83 and 93. It was the equalizer for a lot of players. The arsenal was also used, with a slightly altered configuration.
This set up at UAH is the 4th. It was Worlds HQ both times. The 93 Pizza Hut video was one of the best ever. Lot's of history up there.
