First I guess I'd like to say hello to everybody, I have browsed through the site but just registered.

I am going to be down in Orange Beach this weekend and thought I would post and ask what are the preferred courses down in the area. I don't want to drive much more than 45 minutes or so and would hate to waste the drive on a course that is lackluster.

Second, I read something about trying to come up with some wayfinding signs for the courses around town and talked to Tom (Dr.Disc) about a few options I might be able to help with. I work for an exhibit design company and we have a product that is graffitti resistent and fade resistent. I have contacted them about the possibility of donations or discounts, and willl let everyone know how much that pricetag might be with or without the discounts. I also I have a sample if any of the course designers wants to have a look.

Thanks in advance for any help on the Mobile area info.

Scanty,

Two courses closest to Orange Beach will be Blue Angels in Pensacola (I think it's on the P'cola Naval Air Base... never played it... don't know about special access requirements like those at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville... you might want to post on the Southern Nationals Forum, www.sndg.org, and ask directions & access questions) and the Fairways of Fairhope (right off of US HWY 98 in Fairhope, AL... nice little course... probably 30 min from O Beach... some open holes... some tight woods... I played it many times).

Check out the PDGA Course Directory at www.pdga.com anytime you travel to get directions to local courses. Sometimes, there is even a local contact listed on the course page who you can call that will be happy to give you a better description of the course and may even meet you at the course to show you around. It's a great way to make new disc golf friends in new places.

If you trun left at Foley, (east) and go across Perdido Bay, just watch for a little sign on a tree , on the right, that reads Blue Angel Park. No more than a mile or so after the bay. You can probably get through the guard house. Just tell him you are there to practice for the next tournament. Flashing your PDGA card might help.
You can't miss the course. There is a giant pole hole. There are two course's now. It is worth the time, and you will probably be ready to leave the beach for a while.
The other course is just over the bridge from Pensacola in Gulf Breeze.
That one is pretty good, but not as unique as Blue Angel. All the yellow and blue paint is really cool.
