View Full Version : When will it happen to Drake???

Yep again.

I am making this the official tell Jeremy Drake about your ace stories so that he can grumble about not getting one yet, but he has hit just about every basket at George Ward.

Jeremy, you knew about my tomohawk ace at Worlds....

Well today during a doubles league on the north side of DC, I stepped up to a ~275ft hole that is perfect for my flippy buzzz. Well, the wind picked up left to right and I decided to switch to the more stable buzzz.

That disc did the sweetest s-curve you have seen and it faded perfectly into the basket, making the chains move no harder then a solid putt.

Yep, I hit Ace #7, which makes 5 for this calendar year alone. I was actually in the ace pot, but because the $330 ace was hit last week (by my partner for tonights round) mine was only worth $26.

How many aces do you have Drake?

Alright, time to revitalize this thread.

I texted Jeremy the moment it happened, because the only other people around was a young family feeding the ducks, but they did give me a good round of applause and asked "Is that what your supposed to do?".

Today I hit ace #8. It was a slight uphill (5ft) 264ft straight shot. It was my second round ever on this course, and as I step up to hole #1, I take out my stable buzz and throw an easy-smooth-wide hyzer shot, and the disc just settles into the chains like a good putt. I just started laughing!

It had been a while since my last ace, the last one was at sea level and this one happened to be at 5400ft.

Maybe someday Jeremy will get his ace.

Ok, I'm thrilled for all the aces. The only thing nicer than watching one is throwing one....I guess. After almost 25 years playing the game...not a one. I've clanked on rims chains and other 'parts' of baskets and no luck. I keep thinking the old saying makes sense...you know...even a blind hog and all that. I guess I'm more like the chimp with a typewriter who'll never write a sonnet.

I just keeps a throwin' and dreamin'.

Almost got my first four aces this weekend at Trussville. First one was whole two, threw my cobra a little anhyzer and it took a little s-curve and bounced off a tree hit the basket and popped out! Second was whole two also, same thing but hit a tree to the right of the whole and popped left, nearly missing. Third was whole 4, threw my gator through the gap at the right, it dove hard and hit the top. Fourth was hole 6 threw my Beast wide right and very high and hard, thought it would hang up but the wind helped a little bit and it ended up hitting bottom of the pin...BUMMER!

the only other people around was a young family feeding the ducks, but they did give me a good round of applause and asked "Is that what your supposed to do?".

This reminded me of when I asked 'Worm' when his first ace happened.

He was at some course in Mobile, but anyways says he was teeing off on hole 1 and before he tee'd a family in a minivan was getting out and had these big wham-o frisbees, a father a mother and their two children. The family had never played disc golf and wanted to give it a shot, they step up to watch mike throw his first shot, he tees....*ChInG*!

Father asks, wow is that all you have to do?

LoL, it's more humorous to hear him tell it himself...:D

For everyone else Richard also hit a fairway ace, birdied #1 on the Blue course which is a mean woods hole. I have taken several 6's on this hole and have not seen anyone close to birdieing it. Possibly more impressive that the ace. Thanks for calling Richard.

YAY I WANT IN...Well since my disc golf carrier started a year ago i have managed to get 3 aces at the gDub. alternate hole E sidearm(eesh nailbiter) 17short right sidearm (dinker) and finally a sweet backhand shot which seemed to hover about 2 inches from the ground finally making it over the hill and crashing 16's middle straight spot..(that was the best one) It's ok Jeremy i'm sure your first will be sick. But it will probably be on one of your crazy safaris and want count....hehe 9's teepad to the practice basket perhaps?? i can see it flying skipping once into a roll then a little more skippage back into a roll and then right before it starts to fall over somewhere around the ace race line (:))a huge earthquake occurs and the basket falls into the center of the earth with the Drake's disc oddly enough right behind it and right before the basket it engulfed by the liquid MAGMA the disc falls out of the underworld sky and into the chains. Yup one of these days bud. :p:p:p:p:p

I know this thread started as a joke to pester Drake, but in my opinion I think that not having any aces is a good thing. If you have ever talked to Dean Tannock about aces he will tell you he has lost count of how many he has. He will also admit that an ace is a bad shot... you didn't mean for it to go in. Therefore, Drake has very few or no bad shots considering he has no aces. What do you gotta say bout that?

Dan I really think it depends on the hole itself. That is like saying an ace run on 15(island) is a bad shot. There are a great deal of holes out there that have the same thing. I do agree that a dead on air shot ace in most situations is a bad shot. A skip ace is probably next in line as far as a good shot. Then there always are those bank shot aces that are just wacky luck.

and some holes have a back stop of some sort where you can run at them without fear

hole 16 in the straight position comes to mind

Danny,

Drake has nothing to worry about.

Besides, he's a good sport about this thread. He's a good sport in general. He knows that any one of us with an ace that is not the golfer that he is (speaking for myself, with six aces) would trade them all to have his skills. My aces have never gotten me anything. Except a little pride which can't buy a cup of coffee.

Got two aces to my credit. Both would have been drop in birdies though so they weren't really bad shots. First was about 4 years ago, hole 8 at Brahan Springs during a warm up before doubles, I threw a spike hyzer intending for it to hit right at the basket, and well it hit in the basket, but with the angle it woudl have been 2 feet away if it hit the ground nearby. The second was during the ice bowl last year. Hole 12 at Brahan Springs, skip ace that happened to land in the basket. I threw it out to the right intended to skip it left to the basket and instead of falling next to it, it fell in. But again the disc woudln't have skipped any farther thanks to the headwind that lifted it up and dropped it almost straight down. I think Matt Ambrose was more excited then I was hehe and thanks to Matt for not playing the dirty mulligan on it, I know he still had one at that time.

Awesome, hole 8 at Brahan was also my first ace! Witnessed by Michael Davis and Sam Hefley.

Its probably somewhere earlier in the thread, but Drake witnessed my 2nd one at AUM hole 10 :)

Third one people argue doesnt count but I say pfffft, it was about 180ft! 2007 Ace Race at Trussville hole 8. Michael Davis was with me again for this one.

Fourth one was the sweetest yet, in a tournament at Lenora Park in Georgia, hole 17. Howerton saw this one from another hole during the tourney.

Some of the ace race events use the normal holes. Like Brahan here, there are several holes that get played straight up the normal way. I'd say that regardless those are aces. All the other shortened ones I would list as a caveat that they were ace race aces.

If 50 or 60 players are all throwing at the same target and you make the hole in one, yes sir , you got an Ace. They did not. It's the same for everyone. In the Ace Race you are going for it on purpose. Most Aces are accidents in normal play.

I agree. I have two aces, and I also have two "ace race" aces. I say that I have two aces, not four. I consider the ace race aces as extremely lucky upshots. :)

Yesterday my Dad hit his first ace on hole 12 at GW. I thought it was going to be hard to live with him remaiding me about it every day. Today at legue i stepped up to the same tee with my star aviar and hit my first ace the same way my Dad did. What are the chances for that to happen. I guess i just made my stay here with my Dad a bit easier since he can't rub in my face he got an ace and i didn't. Making the same ace that my dad made the day before, it just makes it that more fun.

I got my first black ace today. It was a sweet hyser shot off the 15's long tee at Athens Sportsplex smack dab into 14's raised basket. I took an awesome circle 5 baby!

Does this count toward my Ace Cycle (one tommy, one thumber, one sidearm, and one back hand.) I've got the thumber and sidearm already. It would be awesome if I could get the backhand taken care of.

About 5:15 this afternoon I step up to hole 12 with my 2003 Overstable Open stamped white demon and throw my standard hyzer float shot which actually felt like it left my hand a little early. After making sure it safely navigated the last possible tree it could have hit before reaching the green I turned away to grab my bag. Shortly thereafter my friend James screams "OH" while throwing both his hands in the air. Assuming I once again hit a basket and popped out I asked just that question to which he stumbled out "no, it stayed in". After getting a look at the basket from the tee I barely see something white sitting in the back of the basket. The curse is over. After 6 years and well over 150 baskets hit in every way possible I can finally say I've got my first ace
