The PDGA world championships of disc golf were held last week in the new "Mecca" of disc golf, Augusta Georgia. Three players from the Birmingham area made the trip over. Joe Thacker and Tim Keith made an incredible showing finishing 4th and 7th respectively in the masters division.

Unfortunately Tom Monroe's run at another world title ended early when he was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.

Other golfers from the state represnted as well. Reigning masters world champ Dean Tannock of Huntsville finished 3rd in the masters division making 3 out of the top 7 finishers from Alabama. Alabama's only current touring pro Matt Orum of Mobile had a respectable 9th place finish in the open division. Another great showing was Chad Smith of Huntsville, finishing 31st in the open division in his first Worlds appearance.

Great job guys!

Sorry about your gastronomical problems Tom, that is an awful way to end a comeback Worlds.

It is cool to see the guys who taught me how to play do so well themselves, no wonder people called me the Birmingham Bagger here in VA before I turned pro. (No cash...yet).

Joe and TK who taught me about power!
Deano who taught me what a Hyzer was (last fall:rolleyes: )
And Tom, who taught me the crazy skip shot that still amazes people in the pro ranks.

Awsome job guys....you have a fan up in Virginia!
