The lake was no prob, but the swamp on 9 almost ate my sidewinder!! Thank goodness for long sticks, because I was still in my work clothes - not too swimming-friendly. Played the first 7 holes with a cool dude named Tom, can't remember his last name but he's been playing about 6 years and seems to know all the major players from the Bham crew. I would have been looking for 3's tee for quite a bit without him, so if you're reading man - thanks!

Made about a 70ft birdie on 14, even had a witness for a change.

Anyhow, love that course, but on the last 6 holes I kept feeling like avian flu was the biggest threat to my game every time I picked my disc up out of the goose droppings :p

I have to go back up there on business next week. Which should be my next course to try out?

I bet that was Tom "lefty" Neiman. Bald guy?

Well, its too tough to get on Redstone. Brahn is one of the oldest courses in the world. It changed a lot over the years, but its still worth playing. Some say its too easy or pitch and putt. But, then they go in and shoot a 55 or 56. Its a challenge in consistency.

Mastin is kind of the same. There are some longer holes, but for the most part, it challenges your accuracy off the tee and ability to recover from bad shots.

Yes, he was lefty and bald - and the last name sounds right too http://dev.discgolfbirmingham.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

I'll most likely play UAH a few more times, I always want to correct my mistakes asap.

What is the best way to ensure access to Redstone?

Also, I heard Brahm Springs is not in the best shape (homeless campsites and drug paraphernalia were specifically mentioned). But I've not played any Huntsville course. I am thinking of trying to play Mastin Lake Park tomorrow (Friday) as I will be H'ville anyway.

As far as redstone goes you'll have to get on the guest list (requires knowing someone) or be escorted on the base. The best way to do this is probably to try to catch an event in Huntsville going on. You can check the Huntsville messageboard at http://www.davidhunt.org to see whats up.

As far as Brahan, don't let those comments keep you from playing. You won't see anything at Brahan that you wouldn't see at GW. Brahan is in a very open area and is completely safe!

Redstone doubles is this weekend but you would need to get on the list today. Need to get your full legal name to Chris J @ Christopher.M.Jaskolka@nasa.gov Send him an email letting him know you want to get on the list for this sunday's doubles at 1:15. It's too late for today unfortunately since there is also doubles tonight at 5:30. If you do send him an email and come. Make sure your car is free of everything you wouldnt want them to find as they will search your vehicle. You will also need driver's license, registration and proof of insurance. So allow plenty of time to get through the gate. You will need to go through gate 10 I think it is, the one off of Patton Rd.

The other option for gaining redstone access on thursdays, saturdays, and sundays of every week is to pay for a RCCG membership ($25) and you get on the list to have a visitors badge made which works any week on those days.

The worse day at Brahn with homeless people is nothing compared to George Ward. For instance, I have never been hit up for money at Brahn. The city runs them out (imagine that) when they set up camp.
