For everyone who couldnt make it out to the Ice Bowl, we still have plenty of 2008 bag tags (and full membership pkgs) available. Come out to the mini on Mar 1 and get in on the action. We've already had some great tag challenges already!

Tom, we'll be using some of the new shorter pin placements. I'm hoping to get w TK and have the layout decided on and in place at least 10-14 days in advance. Whatever it will be goes for both rounds.

So I can sign up for the bag tags there? It's $25 right? I may not have the money but I'll see.
Also Is there any way that I can tell if I should play Rec, or Novice?

Jebb
02-06-2008, 12:58 AM
Its actually only $20 - you get a tag with a club membership included, mini marker and nalgene club logo bottle.

As for the division, I'm assuming you don't yet have a pdga membership/rating so just compare your typical round scores at Trussville to those shot at the 2007 Christmas Classic at Trussville:
http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7241&year=2007&include_ratings=1#Open

Note the ratings divisions have now changed a bit in 2008, reference here:

Oh hey Josh, you guys were out at doubles this weekend right?

Yes, you can purchase a bag tag by itself. It's $5, later on if you decide you'd like the full club membership then you can just pay the $15 difference.

Bring a couple extra bucks. We're going to be auctioning off a Solstice CFR Gator, entries only $1 each!

what does CFR mean?

Justin L
02-06-2008, 04:50 PM
CFR = Champion Fund Raiser

It's basically a champion (candy) disc from Innova that is only sold as fundraisers for events, which typically makes them a little harder to get.

scraps
02-19-2008, 09:31 AM
I like 11 where it is (short). Even with the creek/river behind it makes for a very scenic and challenging little hole.
(I blew the basket on my approach and went into the rushing river. The key: my Rubber Putter floats! :) So it was no worries to get it back.)

jdisc
02-19-2008, 10:37 AM
yeah, well, i disagree.

"Tiger"
02-19-2008, 10:58 AM
lol, they're both good and bad. The long placement is nice because it theoretically takes the river out of play (though with new players trying to rip drives that long there will probably be a couple discs floating down anyway) The river placement is very short but then of course you have to worry about the river itself. I'd say if you're just afraid of the river placement put it in the original spot because then you don't have to worry about the river but you also don't have another really long hole for beginniners (which is who the mini's are designed for) to play. But with that said, I think TKs setup is fine

Jebb
02-19-2008, 11:05 AM
My only concern w the river is whether or not its raging after a storm, which can be deadly if anyone were to fall in. with that being said, it can stay there otherwise.

Crono
02-19-2008, 11:42 AM
I like it by the river, it gives me a chance for birdie... unless I throw it too far.

I like the band Green River. :p

Tim k
02-19-2008, 10:32 PM
If you are afraid of throwing in the river, just play it for a 3, this placement isn't that hard, it's only 200 ft. You don't need to throw a driver in this placement, just throw your putter and you will be fine.

"Tiger"
02-19-2008, 10:43 PM
I agree. If you're still scared bring and old disc you don't care about anymore and throw it :D

We made a lot of progress working on the course today before doubles. A new bench at hole 1 and new bridges on 18 and 11. Hopefully I can make it out one day this week to put in 1 or 2 more benches and get a bridge in between 7 and 8.

HUGE thanks to Joe Meadows (step-dude here on the forums) for donating all the lumber and helping with bridge construction.

Crono
02-25-2008, 01:17 PM
Oh yeah, since there is a 72 player limit do you think I should come a bit early to make sure I get in?

Jebb
02-25-2008, 01:54 PM
Since this event will have everyone playing from the long pads, thats why I stated 72 is the limit. If we somehow go slightly over that number we can *try* to make adjustments as necessary unless 90+ show up.

If you get there a little early it certainly will help.

I left a message with the Parks Dir. this morning. there are a few trees down, especially to the entrance to # 5 's green. There are limbs down all over the course. I picked up a few, but there are some that might take a chain saw or a couple of guys.
There is a leaning tree over your head on the tee of 3 and you walk under another leaner to get to 18 tee.
If enough players pick up a few limbs while they practice, we should look good by Sat.

fyi to all - After having more rain this week, hole 11 pin very well could move. If it stays to the right and we see that losing discs to the mighty Cahaba causes backups it will certainly move for the 2nd round.

It's staying put, no more rain this week. Like i said if you go in the water you don't retrieve you disc untill after the round. that is what causes backups, people trying to get thier disc instead of continuing play

Jebb

or you could just not throw in the water ;)
you keep approaching this as a skill thing whereas I'm thinking of general flow of play for the entire tourney and more importantly a safety issue if the water is raging (as we DID have more rain this week with even more in the forecast). Regardless, if it stays put and a disc goes in the water players will not be allowed to retrieve discs until after the round which will also wreak havoc. Rather than having many players upset because they no longer have a putter I would rather avoid making a field of mixed-skill players endure this situation and instead have a field full of open players in some future tourney presented with this risk who actually know better. ;)

Randy and i were discussing uping the entry to 40.00 for a better payout for the pro's, i think he called jebb about it. I know its kinda last minute but i know most pro's would rather pay a little more to get a better payout, at least i know i would, especialy if you are coming from out of town.

What do other pro's think about this that are planning on coming?

If all pro's are ok with it, can it be done.

I told Randy we would have to make that call on Sat morning when all pros were in attendance, as we've already had some pre-payments at the announced price.

The worst thing about making any call is that it is indeed last minute. If it doesn't work out, dont let anything stop you guys from making side bets!

It's a little late to change anything that has been posted. That would be like telling one group they would have to play from the AM tees at the last minute.
Originally, this was just a local "mini". Thanks to Jebb and Ralph, it is now a PDGA event.
That is probably why the entry fees were low to start with. Those low fees may also encourage more Pros and some Adv. players to move up.

"Tiger"
02-28-2008, 06:20 PM
yeah, I agree since its a mini you'd get more players step up to play pro at the current prices. Not to mention for those who don't check the forums everyday they may not get the change early enough and show up with not enough money. But I'm ok with a little side action ;)

I had one of my worst rounds ever in T'ville , followed by one of my best. Go figure.

"Karen Jaskolka 51 69 120"
I believe Karen shot a 59 in the second round. We were in the same group together and both shot +5. Just a heads up, I know its just a typo. :)

I agree with Bill. Best way to describe it was SMOOTH. It was a great show and some fun photos.. I'll be giving my 'take' from to Justin/Jebb Sunday. I hope they'll be able to put something up as soon as they have time. Thanks for letting me and Henry wander round and shoot back at you all. And congrats to the TD's and winners.

When will the Pics from the Tourney be up? The guy with the dog took some good photos of everybody.

The "guy with the dog" is tahoeturk aka Art. He's a magician with a camera and _always_ takes good pictures. As it was said this morning, DGB/Birmingham events are quite possibly the most professionally photographed events in the country and we are incredibly thankful for that!

Pictures will be up tomorrow morning. I forgot that my laptop doesn't have a CD-Rom drive (it's an ultraportable) so I'll have to upload them from work tomorrow. :)

I think I was a little "tight" the first round. The only good part of that round was getting to play with Jeremy and Justin. They played great. Now, about that caddy...?

Hey! put down that triple espresso latte, stop playing with yourself, quit eating those cheetos and for absolutely certain, stop sounding so upset! ;) :D

They're uploaded, I just can't figure out why they aren't displaying. It might be Thursday before I have another chance to look at them. 18 hour days is not leaving a lot of time for website extras these days.

All of our event pictures are located at http://www.discgolfbirmingham.com/gallery/

You can see the links for the images from Saturday, but for some reason they won't display.

Someone PM'ed me about getting the original sizes but I deleted it, sorry. :o But if you click on "full size" you can get the jumbo sized originals for any of the pictures.

Enjoy! And as always, HUGE thanks to Art for making DGB the most professionally photographed disc golf club in the country!

TK, I'm going to need some back story here. What did the poor basket do to you?

Jebb

hahaha, looks like he's trying to hammer the basket into the ground with his putter!

I also took some pics down at hole 11, I'll try to add them later.
