most campuses actually give those things at riduculously low prices for students. So its almost always better to go to the bookstore in that case ;)
For the Student Ultimate version in the bookstore you'll still pay $249 (as its the ULTIMATE version) ;)

Our company is migrating towards using Open Office and want me to try it. Anyone have any opinions as to its functionality/limitations?

Requires a bit more patience than MS Office, but as long as your users are fairly computer literate it shouldn't be an issue.
One thing to keep in mind is that M$ didn't want to play fair with Open Office and some of the older office programs don't like OO's file formats. You'll have to take care in what format you save out of OO into.
The only real issues I've found in the past is some unexpected behavior in spreadsheets with OO. Some stuff I developed in M$ doesn't translate over correctly and formulas (and most specifically rules) get botched.
