really, 14 and 16 long? who did it. I'm curious especially considering 16 is probably gonna be moved once it actually gets time for the tourny

Is 16 not moved for the tourney?

The entire course is setup as it will be for the Mini on the 22nd. We will play to 16 long unless the pavillion is being used as then it would need to move as Tiger pointed out.
I hope everyone can make it.

Actually most of the course is in middle position with a fair balance of long (5middle, 14, and 16) and short (8, A, D, and 17) holes. As far as right-handed... there should be a balance there also. The course does tend to play a little right-handed anyway, though. But there's always the signature lefty hole: 17 short :)

Parkn your really building yourself up as a big arm, you sure you got all the D to back this talk up??? Past the first tree on GW #5, flat ground, no help 450ft each and everytime? 550 with favorable conditions? Just checking. ( and harassing you) I would add a smiley face but I don't know how on the "quick reply"
PS I played this past weekend and unless it has changed the course seemed to be in about the shortest set up I ever see it.

Well, granted it has to do with elevation, but I did crack out a a 560ft throw at Westminster Park up in Denver. It is flat ground I had the perfect slight tail wind and just ripped the snot out of it. It was witnessed during a mini, by the other 3 people on my card. The hole was 575ft long and I was just about 15ft shy of the basket. With my Surge and Pulse I am averaging arond 475ft on big drives, but a lot of the courses are short here except for Paco and Badlands.
The higher elevation has awesome effects on your disc... it fades harder but flies a lot faster due to the lower atmospheric pressure. Mitch Sonderfan and I were pumping out Putters 400ft back in June when we had these wicked winds come off the mountains. 35mph sustained with 50mph gusts, it was a hoot.
Out here it is nothing to throw 400ft...I see intermediate players do it all the time.

Hey, I was at low ground ~5700ft. It wasn't like I was in Vail at 9500ft or something crazy like that. :D
But I threw it, and it landed 560ft away from me....that has to count for something.

So is 16 in the ultra long Golden George setup?

that placement doesn't exist anymore. But there was a longer placement set up making it a long par three from the concrete pad. I believe distance is around 440? someone correct me no that. Its only be used a couple of times as the pavillion obviously comes into play. I've advocated simply getting rid of the placement all together. It keeps getting moved anyway. May as well put the sleeve somewhere it will actually get some good use.

Where would you put another placement on that hole? Short?

doesn't necessarily have to be that hole. Any other damaged placements can be replaced, though I think we've got most of those fixed now. Some suggestions I've heard though for an alternate 16 is to put it on top of the hill in the middle of that semi-circle of bushes. Just a couple thoughts.

I like the semi-circle of bushes idea. The only problem with that is that it gets people throwing towards the road where people sometimes walk (joggers, walkers, golfers, etc.). Still, might be worth considering.
p.s. Has there always been an auto spell-check feature in the messages? Pretty sharp. Now there is no excuse for poor spelling! :)

thats actually a safer throw than the right placement on that hole. If you think about it its a blind shot to the right spot. a shot to the semicircle you can see anyone around and unless you completely overshot the hole no walkers should really come into harms way.
I got hit by a disc one time walking between hole 16 and 17 because someone threw the hyzer shot over the hill to get to the straight position. Any time you have blind sports people will "be in danger". But thats why we yell "LOOK OUT!" "FORE!" only works for golfers... and contrary to popular belief the softballers, family reunioners, and ordinary families walking around will have no clue what you're talking about if you yell that. They don't know its a golf course. So unless you're about to hit golfers say "look out".

Tiger or anyone, how about moving holes 13's extra basket and the collar from 16 across the street for an extra cool hole as you walk to 14??? A lot of good terrain over there and I remember the TT holes over there.

We almost had an "incident" in the pavillion yesterday as some peple almost got hit.
Middle 17 is damaged right now.

Tim not any of us are you.:p
Tiger I think a placement somewhere between 17s tee pad and 12 long basket would make a hell of shot. Some idiot is going to cause stitches to someone in the pavillion if we are not all careful. Perhaps 16 should be moved by a fairy bf we lose our precious park.

any chance you can move it back to the mid position until the 22nd, then we'll just put it back long only for the tourney?
Thanks in advance Tom, I'm about to head up to Huntsville.
edit: just spoke w Jeremy, he will move it today.

Been moved. I actually put it to the right, just felt like it . But yeah, personally I don't see that much more danger in 16s placement than any other hole on the course where you have people lounging in a fairway but 16 is just too much of a hassle. Cause if you're bad enough to spray a drive into the pavillion going for the long placement, what keeps you from doing it in the middle or placements? I still think the basket should be kept away from there unless we've rented out the pavillion, because ya never know when a family will be in there and someone will have an errant drive. I think elsewhere on the park we can get away with nearly hitting someone but the pavillion seems to have some magic around it making it extra bad to go into. I guess being a physical presence just makes it seem less a part of the disc golf park and more a part of the softball area.

I'll find out if the pavilion has been rented before Saturday. If at all possible, I would like to use that placement at least for this one last time. Then we can move it permanently (on that hole, short would be the only other option). Hopefully we can get some use out of it.

An alternative to moving the hole would be to move the tee. The asphalt behind the current teepad has been used for many years as an alternate.

definately a good option. Used it during the GG last year. And I know I'll occasionally use it if I decide to play a "blue tee" round.
