I just thought I'd show everyone this clip of the Interview with Des Reading following play at a certain course at worlds. I fully agree with everything she has said and many of the courses I've played fall into the category she describes. Its just nice to hear a top pro saying the same thing I've said about courses like St. Louis's Endicott Park, Cottage Hill in South Alabama, and a few holes at the two courses in Agusta (I know they were a work in progress but damn). Enjoy
note: she's the second half of the interview so you can fast forward through Angela

If you can't get it from the link just go to www.discgolftv.com and look for the Angela and Des interview

lol, its 3 minutes long....

And yeah, I agree with her to an extent.

There is a difference between tight, lucky, and gimmicky.

In my opinion:

TIGHT - Always ok, as long as its fair, clearly defined fairway. Small fairways ok, non-existent ones are not. I think you can definitely show off world class talent on a tight course.

LUCKY - This is what happens when a tight course has a tree right in the middle of the fairway. It's unfair, it's silly, and it's generally not fun for anyone to play. If to much luck is involved it has no longer become a test of skill.

GIMMICKY - Hanging baskets? Baskets on top of 20 ft mounds? Baskets wedged in trees? seriously? I'm not going to say that this wouldn't be fun to play, but it's definitely not something that should be used to showcase top talent. To much luck means skill doesn't matter...boo on that.

des definately looks pissed and still the one Ide want to crack a beer with. When do trees leave being skill and become a gimmick tiger...10 ft 100 ft how far from the tee pads is a gimmick to you and your looong surgen arm:eek:

I have no problems with GW and Trussville. I rag on 15 at GW just cause I miss it all the time :-P, but its a good hole. The only questionable holes at t-ville I can think of are maybe 6 and maybe 15, but otherwise its legit. Some of the other courses I've played (namely the agusta HOF courses) however have too many "luck" based holes. To me it doesn't matter the distance from the tee. A 200 ft hole or a 700 foot hole, if you have multiple trees dotting an already tight fairway its just pure luck. When you get in the "fairway" and go "ummm... where the hell is the line" thats when I question course design. Most of the courses I've played in alabama are well designed with clear fairways and defined routes so its hard to find an example you may no what I'm talking about. Imagine hole 10 at trussville. Now stick about 10 to 20 trees randomly in the fairway to where no matter how good you are and how far you can throw its gonna take some luck to get out and have a decent look at a second shot. Again, our local courses are well designed in keeping the course fair and based more on skill than luck.

If you wanna play some crappy courses though I'll be happy to suggest some to you.

Definately not man....I play too many good courses crappy:o But Ive discovered when I play open courses out of state that my game is better than those who play nothing but tight courses or open courses. We are lucky to have such a mix of good courses. and Ive seen you throw off of bs tee pad and make a disc miss 6 trees in the fairway....I thought yall had the jetti mind force on those things

BTW what is your opionion of the courses in Tsimingo? I want to do DGB ok in the intermediate women since Nicki will be battling it out in advanced. I want to come home and hear that one of you guys is going to the USDGC and that bham has racked up at SN. Wouldnt that be a wonderful weekend!!!!
