You may want to contact your PDGA state coordinator about this one.

Huntsville is holding two C-Tiers that same weekend, and with one of them requiring military security clearance. They might not be able to change the date.

Is there still going to be $5k added cash to the pro purse?

Kris, I talked with Addie about this several months ago. She agreed to change the dates of the Huntsville events. How's DC?

Joe,

Sadly, Addie doesn't really have a say in what happens in Huntsville anymore. My suggestion is that you contact Lavone, who is running one of the tournaments or David Hunt who is the club communication officer.

Josh

PS This isn't a knock against the Huntsville board, just a We need Addie in Charge post.

Josh, yeah I just refered to the PDGA coordinator who is the mediator in the event of sanctioned events on the same weekend, if the TD's of the events can work something out with eachother, it is acceptable to have events on the same weekend.

Joe,

DC is alright, they have no idea how to move traffic around. 500,000 people each morning going in and out of DC on only three routes, it is a mess.

As far as the golf, there are a few good courses within an hour drive (7am on a weekend, I would not try it on a weekday), but there is a course near by, it is really short, and shooting anything less then -10 is dissapointing. But I am getting better at tight wooded sidearms and over hand shots. But it is great practice for worlds, and there is an open field I can stretch out my arm every once in a while.

Kris,

The problem is that if you sanction at the B tier level, Huntsville is inside the 100 mile prohibited radius for a C or D tier event. Huntsville already has sanctioning. Wouldn't you need the Huntsville TD's "cooporation" to run the event? I guess you could use new math and figure that H'ville is more than 100 miles away, or you could sanction as a C Tier.

In a perfect world, Huntsville would back off and run their events on a different weekend. But I've got news for you, right now I don't think they will. So the best case scenario is that H'ville will be competing with B'ham. MJ and I will go to B'ham (redstone and UAH don't suit my game), but I would bet that very few others will.

Josh

PS The above statements do not in any way imply that I have any say in what the Chaingang does. I just have an ear to the ground.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

I'm by no means in the loop with the organizers of the Gold Jacket but I think the last thing they want to do is compete with H'ville.

Personally, I want to go up and play at their place as much as I want them to come down and play here!

So do I Justin, but I think the Jacket is in place.
Kris, Lavone has nothing to do with this one. Chris J and we I in touch trying to work it out. Too bad you had to move . Those weekend rounds ar just no the same without you. Take care.

Two months out and we still don't have anything definite? Esh...I hope this year is a "learning year" and we get this thing linend up better for next year. It makes it really hard to build any interest when we have no idea what to tell all our friends/competitors about the tournament.

"Tiger"
07-08-2006, 05:32 PM
my suggestion?... move it... to the spring. I don't think we'll even be ready to have it this fall, you're asking to have all the tee pads done with around 2 months time. Its already taken like 2 months to get 3 in the ground and we're shooting for 36? nothing wrong with a little postponement if you ask me

Parkntwoputt

I am actually in agreement with Drake on the scheduling of the tournament. I have never met the C21 guy, but from what I understood is that he/C21 wanted all the top pros at this event competiting for the $5k. I am pretty sure these touring player have their schedule set for the fall already.

Probably the best option to hosting an event which will attract the top players, would to hold it between the Bowling Green and Melborne tournaments. You could contact Dave Gentry and get the scheduling right to coordinate the whole deal. The National Tour organizers would probably love a rich B-tier stop between NT events.

Plus it would allow the tournament organizers time to promote the event and gain more sponsors. Plus it would give Trussvile adequate time to break into a tournament ready course. And again, B-ham is known for big successful spring tournaments.

IMO.

This fall event is their warmup for the big one next spring.
5K added, all divisions. If T'vill isn't ready, we can just limit the number of players to 72., or use the extra 6 holes at GW with more players.

so the 5K is going to be split between divisions, I thought that 5K was going into the pro payout?

I also think it would be a real shame if you didn't use the trussville course, it will be ready to play, it may not have all the cement pads done but it will be ready. I think it needs a tourny played on it, I think most people would agree with me on that!

I don't disagree, but an event thats tryin to be B or A tier can't have mixed pads at the course. I personally wouldn't care, but top pros would probably complain. Thats just my two cents. I would definately love to see the tournament played at BOTH locations (and the spring is better for me, no soccer = I can play :-D)

Joe Thacker

I have played many B-tiers with crappy teepads, and several A-tiers with crappy (concrete but uphill, downhill, off-camber, etc.) teepads. We will have premier concrete tee pads poured on Am 2 and Pro Tees 3, 16, 17 and 18 by next Thursday. Am and Pro 1, Pro 2, Pro 8, Pro 14 and Pro 15 are done. We will pour Pro 6, 7, 10, 11 and 12 in the next pour (early- or Mid-August). The remainder of the pro tees 4, 5, 9 and 13 are perfectly playable now. If we schedule another pour in late-August (if we have the $$$) we will pour Am 8, 10, 12, 16 and 17. The remainder of the Am pads are perfectly playable. In other words, the teepads will not be an issue.

IMO it would be a real shame to play this event only at George Ward. Given the support we have received from the City of Trussville, I suggest that if we only use one course, we use the Trussville course. The City of Trussville would be very excited to see a disc golf tournament in town, and no doubt we could get the Mayor as well as many members of the Park Board out to watch. All the amenities are within 1 mile of the course. The field by Hole 1 is a great tournament central, and safe to boot! We will have a disc golf bulletin board and Mach V practice basket up within two weeks. If we get the committment to Trussville, I will even promise some benches on several holes.

Considering that little or no info has been publicized about this tourney, it is doubtful that it will fill (144 players). We will have to choose one course to simplify things. My vote goes to Trussville.

"Tiger"
07-10-2006, 07:57 PM
Yeah, if you have to only use one course, go t-ville, especially if this really is just a warm-up for the big one in the spring.

Joe Thacker
07-11-2006, 09:03 AM
The Trussville tournament layout inlcudes lengthening hole 1 to the back concrete pad, pushing 10 down and across the creek to make it a REAL Par 5 (with ob on the left), and moving 15 about 120 feet back, to make a nice par 4. Don't blame me, blame TK

From the beginning, the plan has been to use both course's.
Tee pads look great. I'll be working with Wayne and maybe going to Augusta next week. I put up a flyer at GW about the Wed. pour. Some more players may show up to help.

The wait is over. After an investigation, disinformation, misinformation, interrogations, ramifications and confirmations, the official word is that, "The Century 21 Gold Jacket" event has been postponed untill further notice, probably Sring/Summer.
The good news is that they are open to throwing in some money to help out Trussville tee pads. More on that after it happens.
