Aweseome TK. I've got a couple hours to kill tommorrow morning before i head out of town. I think i'll drift by and check out the progress.

Can't wait to play doubles there. I'm thinking like two weeks...we can live with rough tee-pads :)

Just getting back in town today so i got some stuff i got to handle. But i plan on getting at least one evening work day in this week.

I'm going to put a sign up notifying people we're going to play doubles there next saturday (the 15th)!

Do you guys/the city mind if i spray a line down so the tee-boxes are more obvious?

I guess the there was a loss of transfer in work days.

Saturday the 15th is a workday at George Ward. Nothing huge, we just need to install 11 mando signs, pick up trash, and clear some fairways of gumballs in preparation of the tournament. How about doubles on the 16th at Trussville?

Tim Keith
04-04-2006, 02:54 PM
I think we should get the other two baskets in the ground and finish clearing 2 and 18's fairways before and doubles takes place. still kinda rough on those 2 holes!

I have Friday the 14th off for Good Friday and can come help. George Ward or Trussville! Easter is the 16th so I wouldn't suggest that unless you don't hide eggs and go to church. HEY!!! We can have an Easter Egg Hunt out at Trussville!! ;)

04-05-2006, 12:10 AM
Ah, Easter.....

That is why Justin wants to do doubles on Saturday.

The 14th might be a very slow day for us, since most of our customers are governments and churches. I may or may not be out there depending on the weather.

I finished clearing for hole 1 yesterday and cleaned up 2 alittle bit, it should play alot smoother now. we need to finish 5 now, who can come out today and do a little work, it shouldn't take that long with a little help.

Yeah, that was my thought for the 15th...I was typing that earlier from my mobile phone so i didn't go into it...lol

I was thinking workday in the morning and a round of doubles to follow or something like that.

I was going to push it at this weeks doubles.

I installed hole 1's basket yesterday, just one left #5 if anyone wants to go out and start clearing back in the privot this week or weekend please do so.
all you have to do is cut a alley about 40 foot back into the privot and about 20 to 25 feet wide. I am going to try and get out there today and start on it,and then play a round i am leaving thursday going to NC for the wedding and joe is going to Blowing Green, it would be nice to come home and it be finished! "Hint Hint". If you guys can get it finished this weekend we can have the last basket in the ground tuesday! You guys know what to do, ya'll have been out there enough to know what joe and myself are trying to accomplish. As the "cable guy" said, GET ER DONE! If anybody needs my loppers and handsaw let me know, also viktor may still have that chainsaw.

Cool...I'll be all over that #5 privett on Saturday morning if anybody wants to join me.

How is the dragging situation on 18 & 2? If there is still stuff left do we need to drag it all the way out or just to a certain spot for the chopper to come in and get it? Also, is that all the cutting that needs to be done on those holes? What about anywhere else on the course. I think we can knock out the #5 deal pretty quick as its all that easy privett like #3 was.

Justin,

What time will you be out there on Saturday?

I am thinking that my time spent golfing at GW on the weekends is caput since softball players take over the entire park. I will likely at least play one round after we drag/cut saturday morning.

I am thinking that the only time I will be at GW anymore is on the weekdays when there are no softball players out there.

Justin L

I was thinking 10 ish...that would work good. Clear for a while, grab lunch maybe, play a round.

Cool man, I got my loppers back so if you can't make it we can at least get some of the small stuff around 5 done.

TK.....How far do we need to drag the big stuff around 18 out? All the way to the road or just to past that 2nd ditch? Are they coming back out with the chipper/shredder?

This afternoon I got two solid rounds in on the course. And if anyone is thinking that this is the olde style "par 3" course, lets just say you will never have a good round out there, ever.

This course is awesome, and is exactly what Birmingham Disc Golf needed. There are 5 holes by my count which are legit par 4's.

#5 - This morning we lengthened it about 70 more feet into the woods with a tight gap. It requires two perfect throws to land inside the putting area to get a birdie three. Any dueces will likely come from 70ft and out, so those are eagles.

#10 - The longest hole on the course, I have heard it said it is 700ft long. But I would argue that it is closer to 625ft after the drive I had on it the second round today. I think Doug's jaw hit the dirt when he saw my drive. :D The tee shot is relatively tight considering the distance you are wanting to get. The OB creek behind the basket can ruin improperly played upshots. It plays in similar difficutly to #5 long at George Ward.

#15 - Relatively long, I would guess slightly over 400ft, but the low ceiling, heavily wooded, turnover shot is very difficult to even reach in two throws.

#17 - The removal of the log near the tee box opens up the route in relative terms. Perfectly played, your teeshot gets just beyond the large oak in the middle. Then you pick the lefty or righty hyzer routes and set your self up for a perfectly executed birdie three. Well since this is golf, and none of us play perfect all the time, this baby is definately a par 4. The only dueces will be blind hail mary shots, or ones that get favorable kicks off the boulders.

#18 - This hole will make or break tournaments. 100% down hill, through a very narrow but manageable fairway. Anyone I have seen throw a driver off the box went into the shule. Setting up your second shot is key in successfully finishing this hole. In just one day/two rounds I have seen everything from a 3 to a 7. And that three truly felt like a birdie.

Playing Trussvilles Civitan Park will definately make you a better golfer. The amateur pads are not "ladies" pads, so start off on them and get used to throwing tunnel shots through scattered old growth trees with slight elevation changes on every hole. From the pro pads, there are no easy two's at all. This is not like George Ward, shots that are even a little off line are going to be severely punished.

Even after players took brutalizing scores near 70, I heard them say they are coming back and that they loved the course. If George Ward is the only park you have ever played, then come out to Trussville and realize that the par 3 mentality is dead.

The last basket should be installed by Tim and Joe early this week when they are back from their trips. The holes are all playable from the natural pads although if you never played natural pads, it takes some getting used to. But as soon as the final basket gets installed we should be able to start a rotation of our weekly doubles between Civitan and George Ward. See Justin Littrell for details pertaining to that.

Oh, so in the end. I do not think that Joe or TK will argue with me, but I want to hear what they think. I believe that par from the pro (blue) pads will be 59. Anybody who shoots 54 is shooting an extremely hot round. I also say this, because for not I am basically a par golfer, and today my first round was a 60, the second was a 59. Not trying to be biased, but that is just what I think par is out there.

Kris pretty much sumed it up, this course kicks ass.

Joe/TK, Just incase you have computer access in your travels this weekend I wanted to let you know we basically finished 5. We did take some artistic liberty in the hole so you guys might want to clean it up when you get back. However, we made it tighter than we origionally talked about Thursday.

I gave myself long (but makeable) puts for 4's both times i played it....good stuff.

Did we go far enough back? We made a group decision that we did. Also, I don't think it's as wide as we all talked about. :D

All the baskets are in now! We now officially have 2 courses in town now!!
Hole 5 is a really cool shot, not as hard as it looks, you can get a three pretty easy as long as your tee shot is good. All you have to do is get around the corner. I shot a 4 down with 1 bogey on 10, and missed 3 birdie attempts, i think a 7 to 8 down is possible With double digits being an awsome round!
